Cole Palmer pleased with Villa victory

Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer was thrilled to play a part in the game by scoring a goal and providing an assist, as the Blues resumed their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 win against Aston Villa.

Nicolas Jackson kicked things off brilliantly by redirecting Marc Cucurella’s cross into the goal just seven minutes into the game. Soon after, Cole assisted Enzo Fernandez, allowing him to extend our lead. This marked Fernandez's second goal in as many Premier League games.

After the half-time break, the Blues maintained their strong performance, preventing any chances for Villa to make a comeback. Palmer sealed the game with a stunning curled shot into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper completely stationary. This goal also made him the second-fastest Chelsea player to score 30 goals in the Premier League, just behind Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink—a milestone he takes great pride in.

As December approaches and the busy holiday season kicks off, Cole recognizes that winning against Villa will enhance our momentum for the upcoming game on Wednesday night.

“Aston Villa is a strong team, so securing a victory against them was impressive, and earning those three points felt great,” Palmer stated.

For my goal, I aimed to use the defender as a barrier to curve the ball past him since I was really near. I figured that if I could get the ball around him, I'd have a good shot at scoring.

"I had no idea about that record. To be honest, Jimmy was a pretty good striker! I usually don’t find out about records until someone brings them up! Jimmy is truly a legend at Chelsea and in the Premier League."

Our Number 20 expressed admiration for his head coach Enzo Maresca, highlighting the intense motivation and hard work that the Italian expects from the team, particularly when they are competing in several tournaments.

"The manager is skilled and experienced, which is why we have confidence in his decisions," he went on.

"The cup tournaments are beneficial because they keep players from traveling too much, allowing us to have fresh legs for adjustments. Ultimately, it relies on the coach and the motivation he instills during training, along with the effort the players put in for him. You can really see that in the way we performed on the field."

He mentioned how much he enjoys playing with Jackson, as both of them have scored eight goals each in the Premier League this season.

"I collaborate effectively with Nico," he mentioned. "We communicate daily and also exchange messages after games. We're focused on strengthening our bond to improve our performance on the field, and I hope that effort is becoming evident."

However, Cole remains realistic, reflecting the perspective of his head coach regarding our goals in the league.

"It's still too soon to make predictions for this season," he noted. "If we continue to win, we could find ourselves competing for a top four spot. However, as our coach pointed out, teams like Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal have built their squads over more than five years, while we’ve only had a year to gel as a team. Our focus is on just continuing to play hard and secure victories."
