Awesome Weekend!

Our live reporting on Radio 1's Big Weekend 2024 has come to a conclusion, unfortunately. This is because Coldplay, who performed in Luton tonight as the headlining act, gave a flawless ending performance.

The musical group performed a freshly composed tune at Stockwood Park called "Orange," which is dedicated to the soccer team called Luton Town FC.

The people of the area requested Coldplay to modify the words of their well-liked tune Yellow to satisfy supporters, whose squad's color is orange.

Last night, Raye's performance on the big stage was absolutely amazing. Similarly, on Friday night, Chase & Status also delivered an outstanding performance.

There were other musicians who also impressed the crowds beside them. Sabrina Carpenter, Olly Alexander, Rag'n'Bone Man, Charli XCX, Becky Hill, and even Rudimental were among the many artists who did so. The range of performers seems to be endless.

We appreciate you tuning in to our live event this year and look forward to your return in 2025!

Luton Is A 'paradise' At Present

A reporter from BBC Newsbeat was present at the Big Weekend event in Luton.

The latest No Place Like Home series by BBC Asian Network has revealed that Luton is a town that has been portrayed as segregated in the past.

However, following one year of hosting some of the most prominent football teams across the globe, Luton has now accommodated some of the most distinguished musical performers during an unforgettable three-day event.

The city has accomplished it with assurance and vigor, both within and outside of the festival area.

Over the weekend, there were screens set up at Stockwood Park displaying young people speaking positively about their hometown. This is a significant contrast to the negative historical portrayal of the area.

I believe it's fair to say that Radio 1's Big Weekend currently has a sense of "Paradise" to it, which is not an exaggeration.

Despite Coldplay's name, they still manage to bring a warm vibe to their music.

Luton Is Thrilled: The Big Weekend Is Here!

A journalist from BBC Newsbeat attended the Big Weekend festival in Luton.

Luton supporter Josh and his pals were very pleased with Coldplay's unexpected ending, describing it as "incredible."

"I am overjoyed that Big Weekend came to our town," they expressed - its impact is significant for all.

Coldplay Performs New Song For Luton FC Fans - Watch Now!

As we've mentioned before, something surprising happened during Coldplay's performance tonight. The lead singer, Chris Martin, unveiled a previously unheard track entitled Orange. The song was named after the Luton Town soccer team's colors.

He stated that Luton holds significant importance to them, after playfully addressing the controversy surrounding the singing of Yellow - the official color of Watford, a location situated 17 miles (27km) away down the M1 motorway.

Coldplay Shows The Power Of Music To Unite

Being a music correspondent at the BBC has made me a bit privileged.

I not only have the opportunity to meet all the people I admire, but the review tickets also provide the most optimal view within the venue.

I ventured into the thick of the crowd at Stockwood Park with my 14-year-old daughter, eagerly anticipating Coldplay's headline performance. It was her first time witnessing them live.

I had trouble seeing the stage, and even had a tough time making out the screens. However, all that wasn't important.

Coldplay is an expert at staging concerts in a stadium. They put in a lot of effort to make sure that every moment of each show is memorable for all the viewers.

This is the reason why they distribute wristbands that transform the entire field into a colossal LED display.

This is the reason why the fireworks are not only reserved for the end.

This is why they possess numerous melodies featuring a chorus that consists of undefinable "woaaaaah" sounds. These choruses are uncomplicated to memorize and impossible to remove from one's memory.

This is the reason why Chris Martin takes a moment to express his gratitude towards the food sellers, the security personnel, and every single person present at the event, including those situated at the farthest end and those crammed in near the stage.

He affirms, "We acknowledge your existence and have affection towards you." Some people who are arrogant may view this as trying to please those with lower standards. In my opinion, it's an act of kindness.

A demonstration of togetherness. Evidence that the overused saying regarding the bonding capability of music is factual.

Furthermore, they have an abundance of popular songs that cannot be counted on one's fingers.

I'm eagerly anticipating their performance on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, which is only a month away.

I could possibly wait in line once more to get into the area of the concert where people push and jump around.

I admire Chris' cleverness in avoiding the challenge of finding a word that rhymes with orange by simply spelling it out as O-R-A-N-G-E and then matching it with "I was born in love with Luton, and I'm always gonna be."

Wow, that person is an amazing songwriter.

Chris Martin's Admiration For Luton Town FC

This is a very important moment. We are excited to share with you the fresh lyrics from Coldplay's unexpected song, Orange.

Being a football enthusiast in Luton town can be quite challenging. Despite trying your utmost, there are times you may just experience a downward spiral.

We didn't come out victorious in all of our games, and unfortunately, we didn't take home the cup.

"When you take a hit in Luton, you never stay down," he croons.

We didn't expect to hear Chris Martin serenading "I adore you Luton" and "adorn me with orange" this evening, yet that's precisely what happened.

This year, on the last day of the season, Luton Town FC suffered relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.

Coldplay Performs New Track... Orange

Chris Martin has paused his performance to speak to the audience. He mentioned that he had recently come across an article in the newspaper stating that certain individuals in Luton were anxious or displeased about the fact that the song Yellow was being sung. This apprehension may have been caused by the Hatters football team associated with Luton Town.

According to Martin, he was once warned that he would never leave Luton in one piece; however, he claims to be unfazed by this notion.

He expresses gratitude towards the audience for singing Yellow along with him and states that he has a surprise for those who criticized his decision to perform the song.

He has composed a tune named Orange.

"I have a great fondness for Luton Town FC!" he proclaims with enthusiasm.

Sparkling pyrotechnics will commence an electrifying performance that is sure to be explosive!

We are transported to a state of bliss when Coldplay performs their hit track Paradise, with the entire audience singing and applauding in unison.

The crowd is singing Viva La Vida really loudly and some people are stacked on top of each other's shoulders. It's the most energetic I've ever seen a crowd sing a song.

Top Pick: Viva La Vida - My Favorite Song Ever

The journalist from BBC Newsbeat who was reporting at the Big Weekend event in Luton.

This is the melody I have been anticipating.

My absolute favourite - the best of the best.

The rhythm, words and melody aided me in difficult study sessions and served as a motivational song while playing sports.

"Surprises Await In Coldplay's Show"

A journalist from BBC Newsbeat is currently reporting from Big Weekend in Luton.

We had anticipated fireworks tonight, but Coldplay immediately illuminated the Luton heaven with their first song Higher Power.

I won't reveal too many details, but it seems like there's been a lot of activity behind the main stage today. This is due to the amount of work that goes into putting on a Coldplay concert.

I am certain that there will be additional unexpected occurrences to come.

Coldplay Rocks Luton!

Vick Hope greets Coldplay as they take the stage and asks them to show her how loud they can get.

"The group that is going to perform on the stage is very familiar with Big Weekend," states Greg James, "and we always enjoy their presence."

Enormous hollers and cheers erupt as they make their way onto the stage amidst a spectacular display of fireworks and confetti.
