The forward-thinking news network officially announced that it will be postponing its popular and highly rated morning show following an investigation by CNN on Sunday night. The network stated that the show will be back on air on Tuesday.

MSNBC's choice to keep one of its well-known programs off the air during a politically chaotic news cycle, including the start of the Republican National Convention following the shooting at Trump's rally, is likely to cause surprise and scrutiny.

Someone who knows about it told CNN that they decided to not have the show’s many guests appear live on television to prevent any of them from making a harmful comment that could criticize the program and network. Instead, they chose to keep showing continuous breaking news coverage because of the tense political situation at the time.

A representative from NBCUniversal News Group stated to CNN that due to the seriousness and intricacy of the ongoing story, NBC News, NBC News NOW, and MSNBC have been providing continuous breaking news coverage since Saturday evening. The networks will continue to provide simultaneous coverage, switching between NBC News, NBC News NOW, and 'MSNBC Reports' as the situation unfolds throughout the week.

After the recent assassination attempt on Trump, many of his loyal followers have strongly condemned the media and left-leaning commentators for their tough reporting, which has highlighted the potential consequences of having the former president in power for another term.

Cesar Conde, who is in charge of NBCUniversal News Group, collaborated with Rashida Jones, the head of MSNBC, as well as hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski to make the decision, according to a source familiar with the situation who spoke to CNN.

During the campaign period, media outlets extensively covered Trump's efforts to bend the federal government to his advantage, even using it to retaliate against his enemies. This reporting is now being questioned, as some of Trump's supporters believe it created a tense atmosphere that led to the assassination attempt, while ignoring the provocative language used by the former president.

MSNBC has been strongly criticized by supporters of Trump, bringing attention to the network. Some of Trump’s allies have even targeted the parent company of MSNBC, Comcast.

This isn't the initial instance of MSNBC making such choices about their programming during politically intense times.

After Hamas carried out a dangerous attack on Israel last year, MSNBC removed three of their Muslim broadcasters from television without much attention. This decision was made following criticism from pro-Israel forces regarding the network's coverage. As a result, some employees at MSNBC felt uneasy about the situation, according to Semafor.
