Football supporters have criticized ITV because their famous commentator Clive Tyldesley was chosen to commentate on his last game for the company.

The 69-year-old has been employed by the broadcaster for 28 years. He has had a connection with ITV since 1986 when he worked briefly as a backup commentator for the Mexico World Cup.

His last appearance will be when he hosts the broadcast of the Euro 2024 last-16 match between Germany and Denmark in Dortmund.

The famous commentator is suddenly leaving after nearly thirty years with the channel, having been removed from his position.

Tyldesley was removed as ITV's main England commentator three years ago in favor of Sam Matterface and will now be leaving his role at the company altogether.

Currently, fans of Tyldesley are taking to social media to express their disappointment over ITV's choice regarding the last-16 match on Saturday evening.

Tyldesley was standing next to Scottish football great Ally McCoist, who has been a popular choice for co-commentary roles with various TV networks in the past few years.

One person wrote in response to X: 'I can't believe you're letting go of Clive Tyldesley. I won't be watching ITV anymore.'

Another person chimed in, expressing disbelief at ITV's decision to let go of Clive Tyldesley after just the round of 16 match. They praised Tyldesley as a fantastic commentator, stating that he is the best one ITV has. They also noted that he works well alongside Ally McCoist, making them the top duo in their opinion. The person expressed their hope that Sky Sports or TNT will offer Tyldesley a job.

Another message on social media aimed at the company said: 'It is truly unacceptable that this is Clive Tyldesley and Ally McCoist's final match on ITV.'

Another comment on the internet talked about the respected broadcaster's famous career, saying: 'Why did ITV take Clive Tyldesley off after that game? He's a beloved figure in the country.'

In the morning of the match, Tyldesley detailed his pre-game routine in a collection of videos on his Instagram account.

Denmark is looking to cause a major surprise by defeating Germany in their last-16 match.

The initial video displayed him making a cup of tea in the hotel's bar by the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, where he's been staying. Other posts also showed fans a final look at his preparations for the upcoming event.

But there is a possibility that fans might get to hear Tyldesley's soothing voice soon, as he has made it clear to Mail Sport that he is not planning on retiring.

"It's a bit unusual because I'm not planning on retiring anytime soon," he said.

I am not the one who gets to decide this - it's up to them. If they choose to emphasize the fact that I have been here for a long time, that is also their choice.
