Cillian Murphy's Golden Globes speech proved the internet wrong

Cillian Murphy

Cillian Murphy walked up to the stage at the Golden Globes with red lipstick marks on his nose, and the collar of his Saint Laurent tuxedo shirt up but without a bow tie. He appeared as if he had just woken up from a big night out at Saltburn.

The Cillian Murphy that had been ridiculed online for half a year due to his obvious dislike for the media was not the same Cillian Murphy that showed up during awards season. He was a completely different person. It was hard to picture him stepping onto a stage and expressing gratitude to the Hollywood Foreign press and such. It didn't seem like something he would do naturally. However, we should have realized that someone who is capable of conquering entire worlds would live up to the moment.

As he received the prize for his impressive performance in a dramatic movie, he displayed the charm and appeal that have helped him thrive in the competitive world of Hollywood for twenty years. He added humor by teasing Christopher Nolan for not providing chairs for actors on set. He also expressed humble appreciation, acknowledging that acting is a collaborative effort and cannot be done alone. Lastly, he gave thanks to the essential players who contributed to his success: Universal Pictures, Oppenheimer producer Emma Thomas, and his dedicated team.

He started things off in a very charming way by acknowledging the obvious issue. He said, "Let's address the elephant in the room. Do I have lipstick on my nose?" When everyone replied in the affirmative, he quipped, "I'll just leave it that way then."

When I stepped onto a Christopher Nolan set for the first time, I instantly noticed a distinct difference," he expressed. "I could sense the high degree of precision, concentration, and commitment, as well as the absence of seating for actors. It was clear to me that I was working with a director who had a unique and innovative perspective."

He proceeded to loudly acknowledge his co-stars, specifically mentioning Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Gary Oldman by name. He expressed gratitude for their role in making the movie a success and for providing him with support throughout the filming process. He referred to his fellow nominees as "legends," including those who weren't from Ireland, like Andrew Scott and Barry Keoghan. Finally, he gave a special acknowledgement to his family.

The awards speech was accurately measured and flawlessly presented. Consequently, it was evident that he is prepared for his moment at the Oscars.
