Be more Chris Martin, says fan after Coldplay singer’s lift into Radio 1 gig

Chris Martin

A fan who is differently-abled has urged people to emulate the kind-hearted gesture of Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin. The musician provided her with transportation to BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend event.

In a recent interview with the PA news agency, Saundra Glenn shared that she was nearly ready to call it quits and head back home. Her struggle to make it to the accessibility box office located at the entrance of the festival, which happened to take place in her hometown of Luton, had made it difficult for her to continue.

At 64 years old, she had osteoarthritis and issues with her hip, knee, and ankle. She was taking a break by leaning against a fence when a woman in the front seat of a black Mercedes van approached her and offered her a ride.

According to Ms. Glenn, a community advocate, Chris Martin smoothly entered the car through the rear door and took a seat in the back.

As I laid my eyes on him, I turned towards the woman seated next to him and stated, "I'm sorry, but I won't be able to join you in the vehicle as the person occupying it is Chris Martin."

He says, "You are welcome to enter, just go ahead and come in."

Ms Glenn was transported to the festival in a vehicle with Martin, and during the ride, they conversed on various topics. One of which was Ms Glenn's efforts in contributing to the betterment of Luton's local community.

Ms. Glenn quoted the person's words, "It's really nice to learn about your work."

When I mentioned that I will turn 65 this summer, he complimented me saying, "You don't appear so!" and advised me not to be anxious about aging. He suggested that I continue pursuing my current practices.

"It appears that he is a genuinely good individual, and I expressed this sentiment by telling him, 'You are an extremely kind person'."

Ms Glenn snapped multiple pictures with Martin, who went as far as giving her a sneak peek about a surprise he had in store for his performance that night.

During their performance, Coldplay dedicated a fresh tune titled Orange to honor Luton Town FC. This came after the fans initiated a public campaign, hoping that the band would perform a new anthem dedicated to their beloved hometown team.

Ms. Glenn shared that he informed her about his plan to do something unique in the end. She then asked him if he intends to alter the color yellow to orange.

He mentioned that he couldn't disclose that information, but advised to hold on till the end. He ensured he had something unique planned and it turned out to be just that - extraordinary.

Martin had to leave the vehicle before Ms Glenn did, however, after reaching their destination, he instructed the staff to accompany her on a buggy and take her to the accessible area of the festival.

Ms Glenn expressed how committed her companions were by staying until she had her wristband on.

"I made my way to the sitting area on the stage and was thrilled by Chris's performance. It was an absolutely amazing experience last night and easily the most enjoyable activity I've undertaken in a while."

He has illustrated the fact that being compassionate is what fundamentally governs our planet.

Try to emulate Chris Martin's humbleness by being the kind of person who is willing to lend a hand, even if it means offering a ride to someone, elderly or not. It doesn't matter if they're attractive or look young. Just be ready to assist those in need.
