Olympic cycling star Chris Hoy reveals cancer diagnosis

Chris Hoy, a legendary Olympic cyclist, has recently disclosed that he has been diagnosed with cancer and is presently undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

The athlete who has won gold six times informed his Instagram followers that he had wanted to conceal his medical condition but declared that he had no choice but to reveal it.

He said that he is undergoing therapy and is hopeful about the upcoming months.

He made an announcement, stating that he had received some news. He was diagnosed with cancer last year, which was quite unexpected as there were no indications or signs leading up to this discovery.

At the moment, I am undergoing therapy that involves chemotherapy. Fortunately, the treatment is progressing smoothly. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the healthcare workers for their extraordinary assistance and attention.

I had wanted to keep this information to myself because of my young family, but unfortunately, I have no choice but to share it now. I appreciate any help, but I prefer to handle this situation privately.

Hoy expressed that the recent months following his diagnosis have been extremely hard.

He expressed sympathy towards the numerous individuals facing comparable difficulties at present.

I have a hopeful outlook and a lot of positivity in my life, which I deeply appreciate. It's no secret that the past few months have been tremendously challenging.

Right now, I am feeling good and my daily routine is unchanged. I am still working, cycling and living my life without any disruptions.

"I'm looking forward to the coming year of work, especially since the Paris Olympics will be taking place in July. I am eager to dive in, enjoy the experience, and keep you all updated along the way."

On Friday evening, the SAMH charity extended their condolences to Hoy following the news of his passing. He had been a proud supporter of the charity since 2009, serving as their ambassador.

The head of SAMH, Billy Watson, expressed his utmost joy for having Sir Chris as their loyal ambassador and conveyed his sincere backing to Chris and his loved ones.

We are aware that Chris is still very dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and we are excited to collaborate with him in the future.

Today, Hoy holds the title of world champion a total of eleven times and has achieved six gold medals in the Olympics, as well as one silver medal.

Between the years 2012 and 2021, he held the title of the British Olympian with the highest number of decorations and was also the most accomplished cyclist in Olympic history.
