Chelsea take take all three points in fiery WSL clash against ...
Chelsea rose to the occasion as they took on top-of-the-table Manchester United in the early WSL kick-off on Sunday.
Chelsea led from the 23rd minute after Sam Kerr's third attempt on goal finally beat Mary Earps to reach the back of the net and despite less possession, Chelsea made their chances count as they battled United to go top of the WSL table - and succeeded.
Sam Kerr proved why she is Chelsea's key player and one to watch out for in the World Cup.
United didn't give up without a fight, as they pressed and pushed into Chelsea's defence to try and get a late equaliser in what turned out to be a game of cat-and-mouse.
In the end, Emma Hayes turned things around to deny United by changing formation and see the Blues go top of the table - now two points clear.

Emma Hayes still seemed under the weather at her post-match press conference.
When asked for her views on the ongoing BBC-Gary Lineker situation she said she had spent two days in bed unwell.

Manchester City are on equal terms with Brighton 1-1 at half time.

Marc Skinner wanted his side to bring the game to Chelsea and not be scared to play and I think they can be proud of that - they certianly didn't bow down to the defending Champions.
A chaotic and scrambling defensive tactic doesn't suggest confience but the Reds fought hard to deny Sam Kerr time and time again.
I think the takeaway from the game is for Maya Le Tissier and Millie Turner to figure out how to deal with a striker who is going the split them and run inbetween.
Chelsea were not at their best but did enough to keep United at bay. You just knew Sam Kerr was going to get something from the game with threatening efforts early on and will be more than happy to re-claim top spot of the WSL once again.

The whistle has gone for full time and Chelsea have done it. A feisty but also scrappy game, they've managed to deny Manchester United the win and they go top of the WSL table.

Sam Kerr tries to get a second but just can't get there - her frustration shows as she slaps the grass with United still pushing on.

Kadeisha Buchanan has had a superb game and has kept Alessia Russo relatviely quiet.
But you can never switch off with the England forward lurking in the box and the Blues need to keep their concentration in the final few minutes.
That is why Hayes has brought on Magda Eriksson.

It's a final push in these closing few minutes for United as they keep pressing for an equaliser.

Well, its 63% for United and 37% posession for Chelsea BUT there's no way to know who will edge the other out.
Both teams throwing everything into the game in the final minutes.

The Blues did start the second half well, with Kerr nearly doubling her lead. But United are starting to regain control of the midfield battle and imposing themselves in the Chelsea half.
This one isn't over yet.

After a challenge from Lauren James, United's Blundell felt the tackle and went down for United.
She's back up just as Lauren James comes off and Kaneryd comes on for Chelsea.

United are keeping Chelsea penned in their half, the pressure is palable for both sides at Kingsmeadow.

Sam Kerr keeps get inbetween the United centrebacks, Maya Le Tissier and Millie Turner and its causing the back line problems.
United are scrambling at the back to deny Chelsea a second goal.
13:40Laura Hartley
Sam Kerr is being given too much space by United and is really testing Earps.
It was almost 2-0 but she was just off target and it flies wide.
13:39Laura Hartley
A corner for Manchester United unfortunately doesn't give them much. Chelsea regain control eventually after it's kicked out by Millie Bright.
1-0.

United manager Marc Skinner mentioned before the game that he wanted to impose on Chelsea in the second half, where his side didn't last time they met.
And United have come out re-energised.

The teams are out and ready for the next 45 minutes.
Second half underway shortly - can United pull this one back?
1-0

Chelsea have done what comes naturally to them. The WSL holders haven't been at their best, but they have created three big chances for Sam Kerr, who wasn't going to miss for a third time.
Niamh Charles is playing a crucial role in stopping United's flow of attacks down the right. I'd be suprised if she doesn't play the full 90.
Chelsea don't usually throw away leads in big games, but they did last Sunday, so Emma Hayes will be wary this one isn't over.
