Match Report: Nottingham Forest 2-3 Chelsea

Chelsea

Chelsea caught up with Newcastle United in the sixth spot after making a comeback to defeat Nottingham Forest 3-2.

The teams were tied at the City Ground after Mykhailo Mudryk and Willy Boly scored goals before half-time.

It seemed like Callum Hudson-Odoi, a previous player for Chelsea, had a chance to get the victorious goal with a curving shot that put the score at 2-1.

Mauricio Pochettino's replacements had a significant impact, resulting in a victory that broke our streak of not winning on the road. Within a mere two minutes, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson each contributed to scoring.

Mauricio Pochettino opted for the identical squad that won 5-0 against West Ham United last week. But Reece James and Lesley Ugochukwu made their comeback to the Chelsea team after being absent from the squad since December 10 and January 11, as Alfie Gilchrist and Deivid Washington were excluded from the team.

The match was scheduled to start at 5.30 pm BST and Forest were aware that gaining one point from their remaining two matches would secure their safety in the Premier League, as Burnley and Luton Town both lost their respective games. Before the match kicked off, Forest had a three-point lead over 18th-positioned Luton, with a far better goal difference of 13 goals.

In the beginning of the match, the hosts had an amazing opportunity when Chris Wood was given the ball, but his attempted shot over the goalkeeper from a difficult angle was blocked by Djordje Petrovic.

Forest had control of the ball in the beginning of the game, but it was the Blues who scored first. Cole Palmer showed off his skills and made a precise pass from far back, which led to Mudryk scoring.

The player from Ukraine exhibited remarkable speed to surpass the defender and the side-back, and confidently placed his shot to the left, away from Matz Sels' dive.

Forest scored a goal 15 minutes into the match when Morgan Gibbs-White's free-kick came swinging in and Willy Boly headed it in at the far post, with a slight deflection. This made the score even.

In simpler terms, during the game, Chelsea had an opportunity to take the lead again. This happened when Palmer made a precise pass to Nicolas Jackson. However, Sels, the goalkeeper for the opposing team, quickly came out and blocked Jackson's shot by skillfully using his legs to save it.

During the first half of the match, Benoit Badiashile took a powerful shot from a distance that was deflected by Murillo, while Wood's shot on goal was weak and saved by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Consequently, neither team could gain an advantage and they finished the first half with a tie score.

In the latter part of the game, Ryan Yates had a shot from far away that hit the side of the goal post. Palmer attempted a volley from the inside of the penalty box but missed the goal, even with the marvelous chipped pass from Moises Caicedo.

Forest had a chance to score with some impressive play from Hudson-Odoi on the wing. He sent a cross over to Gibbs-White, whose header hit the post from a difficult angle. Wood had the chance to score with the rebound but unfortunately missed from close range by sending the ball over the bar.

Chelsea nearly scored again when Thiago Silva directed Palmer's free-kick towards the goal post, striking it. Hudson-Odoi also came close to a goal, but his shot from 20 yards hit the crossbar, causing the woodwork to shake once more.

The attempt turned out to be a determining factor as there were only 15 minutes left in the game. Hudson-Odoi obtained the ball near the top of the penalty area, changed direction to move towards the middle of the field using his right foot, and elegantly shot the ball towards the bottom right corner of the goalpost.

However, the substitutes that Pochettino brought on during the second half were the key factor in an incredible comeback.

Raheem Sterling scored a goal by cutting inside at the penalty area and elegantly curling the ball into the lower, far side of the net only seven minutes after he was substituted into the game.

Shortly after, James was brought in to replace a player and after a remarkable pass from Caicedo, he managed to get behind Harry Toffolo. Our captain then saw Jackson at the far end of the post and headed in from a short distance, bringing the score to 3-2.

During injury time, the Blues had a chance to score an impressive fourth goal when they executed a smooth maneuver resulting in Sterling giving the ball to Malo Gusto. However, Sels stepped up and made an exceptional one-handed save to prevent the goal.

Petrovic also demonstrated his skill towards the end of the extended play. Even though Wood dealt him a hard blow, he managed to obtain a vital corner kick that Wood most likely would have used to score with his head.

Once Gibbs-White missed his opportunity with a wide volley, the game's last chance was lost and the three points were going back to London.

The Blues have emerged victorious and Newcastle United has been held to a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. As a result, both teams now have a total of 57 points each; however, Newcastle United has a better goal difference of 10 points.

We are currently ahead of Manchester United by three points and a considerable 15 goals as they sit in eighth place on the leaderboard. They still have a game to play against Arsenal tomorrow, which could potentially change their standing.

On Wednesday evening (kick-off time 7:45 pm BST), the Blues will visit Brighton & Hove Albion, followed by our last game of the season against Bournemouth at home on Sunday 19 May (kick-off time 4 pm BST).

The team scored two goals, with Boly scoring the first one in the 16th minute, and Hudson-Odoi scoring the second one in the 75th minute.
