Chelsea is aiming to strengthen their offensive capabilities by acquiring promising Spanish talent Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid. Reports suggest that the deal is nearing completion.
The Blues have improved their midfield by splurging more than £100m on three new players, but now they are shifting their attention to upgrading their forward line as the transfer window comes to an end.
Omorodion joined Atletico last year and then went on loan to play for Alaves in LaLiga. He scored eight goals in 35 games during his time with the team. The 20-year-old is now representing Spain at the Olympics and has scored one goal to help them reach the final.
The way Omorodion uses his body in the penalty area has caught the attention of Chelsea's new manager, Enzo Maresca. Maresca sees Omorodion as a key player in his possession-focused style of play.
Discussions about this possible transfer came soon after news broke that Atletico had finalized an £81.5m agreement to bring in Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez on Monday.
Although it may not have been their first choice, Atletico Madrid has decided to sell some of their promising young players in order to raise money. This decision comes after reaching an agreement on personal terms with Alvarez, who is expected to sign for an initial fee of £64.4m with the possibility of an additional £17.1m in bonuses.
It seems more and more certain that Conor Gallagher will complete his transfer to Spain from Stamford Bridge. The two clubs have agreed on a £33m fee for the midfielder.
After Gallagher leaves, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Omari Kellyman will join Chelsea's midfield, as the team continues to search for a top goal scorer before their season starts next Sunday.
It is unclear what will happen with Romelu Lukaku in the Premier League, as the Belgian player has been loaned out to Italy for the past two years and doesn't seem interested in being part of Maresca's plans this season. On the other hand, French player Christopher Nkunku seems likely to have a regular role at Chelsea, as he has made multiple appearances during their pre-season tour.
