Chelsea 1-4 Celtic: Scottish champions cruise to win in friendly

Chelsea

Celtic handed Chelsea a 4-1 loss during their pre-season match at Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana.

The team that won the Scottish Premiership took the lead when Matt O'Riley scored a goal from a pass by Greg Taylor. O'Riley then assisted Kyogo Furuhashi to score another goal before half-time.

Chelsea controlled the ball more and had more attempts on goal, but Celtic's new goalie Kasper Schmeichel played exceptionally well to prevent the Premier League team from scoring.

Celtic increased their advantage in the 76th minute when Luis Palma took advantage of a miscommunication between Robert Sanchez and Benoit Badiashile to score their third goal.

Palma then provided an assist three minutes later as Mikey Johnston scored a goal past Sanchez to further enhance Celtic's lead.

Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku scored a penalty against Celtic's backup goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo to secure a late consolation goal.

The outcome on Saturday showed that Celtic followed up their recent triumph against Manchester City by concluding their US tour with another win over a Premier League team.

Chelsea still have not achieved a victory since Enzo Maresca took over as the new manager in June, after leaving Leicester City.

In their most recent match, they could only manage a 2-2 draw against the newly promoted League One team, Wrexham. Looking ahead, they will be facing Mexican club Club America in their upcoming friendly match.
