Sonia Bompastor shortlisted for WSL manager of the month award
Sonia Bompastor has maintained her remarkable debut in the Women’s Super League by receiving a nomination for the Manager of the Month award for September.
The 44-year-old coach, who started managing Chelsea this summer, has led the team to two victories in the Women's Super League. They have scored eight goals and haven’t allowed any to be scored against them.
Our opening match of the season against Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow was a tough battle, ending in a narrow 1-0 victory. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, the Swedish winger who was nominated for the WSL Player of the Month award, found the net with the sole goal in the first half.
A week later, the Blues traveled to play against Crystal Palace, where Bompastor's team scored seven goals without conceding any at Selhurst Park.
In South London, a total of six players found the back of the net: Aggie Beever-Jones, Lucy Bronze, Lauren James, Guro Reiten, Catarina Macario, and Nathalie Bjorn.
The two wins extended our streak without a loss in the WSL to five matches, counting the last three games from last season's championship-winning run as part of that streak.
Bompastor is among three coaches nominated for the award, joining Manchester United's Marc Skinner and Robert Vilahamn from Tottenham Hotspur.
