Maresca delivers update on Colwill and Madueke fitness
Chelsea's head coach Enzo Maresca is not worried about the fitness of Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke, despite both players being substituted during the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Our England players, who are set to meet with the national team soon for games against Greece and Finland, participated in today’s match at Stamford Bridge but were substituted before the end of the 90 minutes.
Madueke limped off the field towards the end of the match, and Colwill followed shortly after, having struggled with pain for most of the second half.
In the post-match press conference, Maresca was questioned about the condition of the two players. He responded, "I believe they are both fine after heading into the dressing room. We'll check later, but I don't anticipate any issues."
The match ended in a tough draw. Chris Wood took the lead for the away team just after the halftime break, but Madueke equalized for the Blues with a fantastic shot from 15 yards, finding the far corner of the net before the hour was up.
The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge intensified when we scored an equalizer, especially with James Ward-Prowse receiving a red card in the 78th minute.
In the final moments of the match, referee Chris Kavanagh showed several yellow cards after a confrontation on the sidelines that involved players from both teams.
It's important to mention that Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella are both suspended for our upcoming match against Liverpool after the international break, as they've each received five yellow cards this season.
However, as Maresca pointed out, the depth of the Blues team guarantees that there’s always talent available to step in, regardless of the situation.
The Chelsea manager stated, "Most clubs have about 25 players, so this isn't unique to us. However, our approach has been to distribute playing time among all of them. The reason for this is that they all deserve their chance."
The players who participated in the Conference League last Thursday performed admirably and earned the chance to play again. However, there was another group of eleven who also delivered an outstanding performance against Brighton.
"We aim to utilize everyone effectively, and certainly, when injuries or red cards occur, like with Wes and Marc's absence now, we'll need to rely on some players who weren't part of the starting lineup today."
