Colwill’s thanks to Maresca and praise for Palmer
Levi Colwill credited Enzo Maresca's faith in him for helping him reach his top performance level. The defender expressed that he feels very confident whenever he wears the Chelsea jersey these days.
The Cobham graduate delivered another impressive performance at the center of the Blues' defense on Saturday. Teaming up with Wesley Fofana, he played a key role in securing a 4-2 victory at home against his previous loan club, Brighton & Hove Albion.
Cole Palmer scored all four goals, and Colwill referred to him as a 'special talent.' However, the defender was also pleased with the team's overall effort, as they showed resilience after falling behind early in the match at Stamford Bridge.
Colwill, sporting the No. 6 jersey for Chelsea, thinks that the three points gained from the match against the Seagulls showcase the excellent form the Blues are in under Maresca. He has urged everyone to keep up this positive energy as we enter a hectic October filled with domestic and European matches.
“That was an excellent outcome against Brighton, and our team played really well together,” Levi said after the game ended. “I believe if we had faced this same match last season, the result would have been very different.”
"I wouldn't claim that we performed at our absolute best; there's definitely room for us to grow. Nonetheless, we picked up an important three points, and I hope we can keep this winning streak alive as we continue to develop positively under our coach."
There are moments when everything comes together for us, and when we play at our best, we become a serious threat. We also have that added flair that allows us to secure victories thanks to our pure skill, as demonstrated by Cole's outstanding performance.
It's clear that Palmer rightly earned the accolades following his impressive display, scoring four goals that secured him the matchball.
Although Colwill was happy with how the team performed, he didn’t hesitate to commend his Chelsea and England teammate, recognizing the significant difference he’s making in matches.
"Cole is a fantastic player," the defender mentioned. "The top players in football possess that special spark that can help you escape tricky situations."
"He accomplished that against Brighton by scoring four crucial goals that changed the course of the match. His contributions are invaluable to us, and he certainly made a big difference in this game, helping us secure all three points."
"Cole is an incredibly important player for our team. Just take a look at his performance against Brighton—he manages to score even when opportunities seem slim, and he has a knack for converting half-chances into goals. He’s truly a unique talent, and the exciting part is that we all recognize he still has the potential to reach even greater heights."
Colwill has been a consistent player since Maresca took over as head coach this summer, switching places with Mauricio Pochettino. Levi pointed out how much progress he believes he’s making under the mentorship of the ex-Leicester manager.
"I'm really pleased with how I've been performing this season, and I attribute much of that to our coach," Colwill stated.
"He's boosted my confidence significantly and has shown great trust in my abilities on the field. He encourages me to initiate offensive plays from the defense, and having that kind of belief in me makes me feel like an integral part of our team's style of play."
"I'd like to express my gratitude to him for providing me with the chance to compete and for letting me showcase my style of play. He constantly encourages me, and I truly enjoy being guided by him."
