Draw made for OFC U-16 Men's Championship tournament in Tahiti - Friends of Football
This year's OFC U-16 Men's Championship competition will see New Zealand facing off against Vanuatu, Fiji, and Cook Islands in their group.
The competition with eight participating countries is scheduled to take place in Tahiti between July 28 and August 10, 2024.
On Tuesday March 5, 2024, the tournament ceremony took place at the OFC Home of Football 'Te Kahu o Kiwa' in Auckland.
The teams' names were selected from a container by Henry Fa'arodo, a former captain of the Solomon Islands, under the supervision of presenter Andrew Dewhurst during the draw.
The championship for OFC U-16 Men is the event where a team from Oceania will be chosen to participate in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Men's World Cup.
There is still no official confirmation on where the 2025 World Cup will take place. However, several contenders have submitted bids to host the event, one of which is a joint bid from Indonesia and Singapore.
From 2025 onwards, the U-17 World Cup will be organized every year instead of once in every two years as was done in the past.
It has been announced by OFC that FIFA+ will be streaming all matches in the Championship as well as the qualifying series for free and live.
The competition to qualify for the event will take place in Tonga from April 13th to 19th, 2024.
There are four countries contending for the qualifying position in Group B.
