Celtic began their Champions League journey with a commanding 5-1 victory at home against newcomers Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday.
Celtic took the lead in the 17th minute when Liam Scales scored with a strong header from a corner kick. Just two minutes into the second half, Kyogo Furuhashi extended their lead by tapping in a cross from Nicolas-Gerrit Kuehn.
Arne Engels scored from the penalty kick to make it 3-0 after Danylo Ihnatenko fouled Alistair Johnston in the 56th minute. Just five minutes later, Kevin Wimmer reduced the deficit for the away team with an outstanding volley into the far corner of the goal.
Daizen Maeda reinstated Celtic's three-goal lead by scoring against goalkeeper Dominik Takac, assisted by his fellow Japan teammate Reo Hatate, in the 70th minute. Substitute Adam Idah then rounded off the victory with an easy goal just three minutes before the end of the match.
