Report: Farsley Celtic 3-0 Peterborough Sports
National League North - Wednesday, October 23, at Horsfall Stadium.
DJ Campton-Sturridge set the tone for the Celts by scoring a goal just 10 minutes into the match.
The guests had some good moments in the game around halftime, but it was Danny Greenfield's goal in the 57th minute that gave Farsley the advantage. Shortly after, Robbie Fox scored his first goal for Farsley, securing the win with just 14 minutes left on the clock.
The Celt Army quickly got off to a strong start in this match for the Vanarama National League North, with Ben Atkinson coming close to scoring in the second minute. He was set up for a clear shot at goal but ended up shooting directly at the Turbines' goalkeeper, Peter Crook.
It wasn’t long before Pav Singh’s team found the first goal. Just 10 minutes into the match, Campton-Sturridge received a pass on the right and skillfully lifted the ball over Crook’s head.
Campton-Sturridge nearly scored his second goal and put Farsley ahead again just eight minutes later, but his attempt hit the post from a tight angle. Unfortunately, he had to leave the game due to an ankle injury later in the first half.
Sports had a chance to equalize in the 33rd minute when Dion Semi-Ferris found some space to shoot, but he missed the target, sending the ball off to the side.
In the early part of the second half, the visitors had a strong period of control, during which Tom Wooster made two crucial saves to keep Farsley in the lead by stopping shots from Matt Tootle and Elliott Putman.
Farsley scored an important second goal in the 57th minute when Fox passed the ball to the lively Greenfield, who calmly and skillfully placed it into the bottom corner.
The match was clinched in the 76th minute when Fox, making his first league start for the team, surprised Crook with a spectacular volley. He struck the ball from just outside the penalty area, sending it into the bottom corner of the net and extending the Celts' lead to 3-0.
Manny Mampala, who came off the bench, almost scored a fourth goal as the match approached its final moments. However, as he moved into the penalty area, the ball tangled up with his feet, allowing a defender to thwart the threat.
Farsley’s upcoming match will take them on a lengthy journey to the South West this Saturday, where they will take on Hereford, who are in contention for the playoffs.
Farsley Celtic's lineup included Wooster, Hyde, Fielding, Misambo, Allan, Sloane, Watson, B Atkinson, Greenfield, and Campton-Sturridge (substituted for Youmbi in the 35th minute), as well as Fox (who was replaced by Mampala in the 85th minute). The unused substitutes were Assenso and Turner.
