Preview: Wythenshawe Town vs Farsley Celtic
FA Cup, Saturday, September 28, at Ericston Park.
This is a significant event for both teams, as the winning side will earn more than £5,800 in prize money and secure a spot in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. This will be a historic achievement for the winning club, marking their first appearance in this round, and for the Celts, it's especially notable since they have only been reformed since 2010.
The match will happen at Ericstan Park in Wythenshawe, and it will be featured live on BBC. The kickoff has been rescheduled to 12:30 PM to allow for broadcasting on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Red Button, and the BBC Sport website, with coverage starting just before the match begins.
Pav Singh’s team heads into the match following a close 1-0 loss to Leamington in the National League North last weekend. A second-half header from Anthony Lynn was the only goal in a tightly contested game at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena.
Singh, set to lead his fifth game with Farsley today, is excited about the event. He expressed, “We’re eager for this match. The FA Cup is always a unique experience, and it gives us a chance to demonstrate the hard work we’ve been doing consistently each week.”
"Wythenshawe Town is a strong team, and we acknowledge the challenge they present. However, our priority is to stay committed to our strategy and continue playing with the intensity and discipline we've been developing."
"I feel a great sense of pride for the players and the coaching staff. The dedication they have demonstrated, both during games and in their training, has been remarkable. Each person has contributed, and it's this teamwork that truly strengthens us."
"This competition is more than just advancing; it's about uniting the club and its supporters, demonstrating the strong spirit we've built as a team. Each player and staff member understands the importance of this match, and we have trained diligently for it."
“We’ll tackle this with a positive attitude, remaining composed, fulfilling our responsibilities, and demonstrating the true spirit of Farsley Celtic during the game.”
The Celts don't have any new injury concerns following last week's loss to Leamington. Singh is optimistic about the potential return of Aiden Walker and Rudy Misambo, who are both working on their recoveries from injuries.
Today's rivals are currently positioned in the Northern Premier League Division One West.
Under the management of Rory Fallon, Wythenshawe has played three games in the competition so far. They secured a 2-1 victory against Whitchurch Town after their first match ended in a 1-1 draw, which required a replay. They also advanced by overcoming Newcastle Benfield, thanks to a late goal from Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, following a red card for their opponents in the first half.
