Celine Dion's sister has revealed that the famous singer is currently dealing with stiff-person syndrome (SPS), which is a rare neurological condition that affects her ability to control her muscles.

One year in the past, the famous Canadian disclosed that she had been diagnosed with a state that cannot be healed, leading to body tension and sudden contractions.

Following the cancellation of her scheduled tour dates, she shared a moving update with her fans, explaining that she was experiencing spasms that were having a profound impact on "every single aspect" of her daily life, making it hard for her to walk and affecting her ability to use her vocal cords effectively.

Claudette Dion, the sister of the person in question, has recently disclosed that her sibling is unable to manipulate their muscles.

During an interview with Canadian publication 7 Jours en français, she expressed her distress, saying "It hurts me to see how in the past she always had a strong work ethic and was very committed to her goals."

Celine Dion had to cancel the rest of her global tour in May.

She stated that it was unjust to continue delaying the performances, and while it saddens her, it is more suitable to scrap all concerts until she is fully prepared to return to performing.

According to her, due to the rarity of the illness, there hasn't been substantial research conducted on it. Consequently, some individuals have lost their optimism.

The vocalist affirmed that her supporters are backing her up. She also disclosed that she has received numerous messages and presents from them.

Can you tell me about stiff-person syndrome?

As per the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke situated in the United States, there exists a peculiar neurological ailment called stiff-person syndrome (SPS) that possesses characteristics of an autoimmune ailment.

According to the institute's website, SPS is noted for having inconsistent tightness in one's muscles, particularly in the body's midsection and limbs. Additionally, individuals with SPS are more alert to different stimuli like sound, touch, and emotional stress, which may trigger involuntary muscle contractions.

According to the statement, the disorder is identified by unusual body positions, most commonly a curved and tense posture.

Individuals who have SPS may experience a high level of disability that prevents them from walking or engaging in physical activity. Additionally, some may feel anxious or scared to go outside due to the possibility of random noises on the street, such as the sound of a car horn, that can lead to painful spasms and falls.

The article reports that SPS affects females twice as much as males and that researchers aren't sure about the root cause of this disease. However, studies suggest that an autoimmune reaction in the brain and spinal cord leads to SPS.
