Long-standing Carpetright store at Altrincham Retail Park to close

It has been verified that the Carpetright store located at Altrincham Retail Park will be shutting down.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Carpetright had applied to appoint administrators due to a decrease in sales over the past few months.

PwC has been looking for a purchaser while the company rushed to secure additional funding.

Recently, competitor flooring store Tapi has acquired the Carpetright brand, its intellectual property, two storage facilities, and 54 retail locations. This acquisition has resulted in the retention of 308 jobs.

However, it was mentioned that acquiring all the locations and storage buildings was not feasible, which resulted in the closure of the Altrincham store and the upcoming layoffs of several employees.

For over 15 years, Carpetright has been operating a store at the George Richards Way location.

Over 200 additional stores, including one located at Trafford Retail Park, will be closing down.

Jeevan Karir, who is in charge of Tapi, stated that their original aim was to rescue the entire Carpetright company.

As we delved deeper into the specifics, we discovered that it was not feasible to save the entire business.

On Monday, PwC announced that the administrators are assisting impacted employees in receiving their entitled payments promptly.

Zelf Jussain, who is a joint administrator at PwC, recognized that it was a challenging period for those who were impacted.

"He mentioned that the sale of certain stores and the brand to Tapi has rescued more than 300 jobs. This will give the Carpetright brand an opportunity to thrive and succeed with its new owners," he stated.
