Dancing on Ice's 2023 series has now had every celebrity perform, with the first contestant eliminated and actress Carley Stenson sitting on top of the scoreboard with 32 points, after her performance to Jessie Ware's 'Say You Love Me'.

Carley, who played Steph Cunningham on Hollyoaks between 2000 and 2011 before leaving the show to pursue her West End career, has opened up about why she is taking part in the ITV show – stating that she has found "a little bit of me again" after a period of feeling "lost".

Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: "I just love the fact I get to perform again and I miss dancing so much.

"I think being a mummy – straight from lockdown as well – you have to stop what you're doing and what you love. And I kind of didn't concentrate on that at all."

"Putting my glad rags on and actually brushing my hair has been quite nice. A nice change!"

Carley also stated that her husband Danny Mac, who made the final of Strictly Come Dancing in 2016, was "raring" for her to embrace something that was just for her.

"We've had a baby and I've put myself to the back," she continued. "He's just like, 'Go get it. Go get it.' He's so excited for me.

"I'm extremely grateful to have this opportunity. I love performing and I would never get to do this on my own," Carley added.

"I want to do everything and I want to do stuff that has never been done. I think I’m going to have a few days where the fear is going to kick in, but I’m going to have to get over that!"

She also stated that she "absolutely adore[s]" skating partner Mark Hanretty, calling him "such a goofball, but I feel like we just got on straight away."

Dancing on Ice airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
