Fabian Schar and Joelinton's early exits from Saturday's match have worsened Eddie Howe's already injury-prone team, but there are two defensive developments from the game that may provide optimism for Newcastle United.

Howe may have originally planned to rotate players more in the previous two rounds of the Carabao Cup. However, now that the team is in the quarter-finals and has a chance to make it to Wembley with just three matches left, he may have to choose a stronger starting lineup.

The soccer team of Newcastle has not allowed a goal to be scored against them so far this season. They have had both Nick Pope and Martin Dúbravka taking turns as goalkeeper. However, because the English goalie injured his shoulder earlier this month, it is probable that the Slovakian player will be chosen as the goalkeeper for the next game.

There is some talk about whether Loris Karius will have the chance to come back, as he has not played since the Carabao Cup final last season. However, it is anticipated that the Slovakian goalkeeper will be the one starting.

On Saturday, although the injury of Schar was unfortunate, some small positive aspects came from it. For example, goal scorer Dan Burn made a return to the starting line-up and Sven Botman was on the bench, which has increased Howe's available choices.

There's uncertainty about Kieran Trippier's availability for Tuesday's match as it's uncertain if he'll recover in time. Injuries to the defensive lineup have given Tino Livramento a chance to step up, and he's performed admirably. Some even suggest that he's done enough to secure a permanent position on the first team.

The inexperienced defender has participated in every Carabao Cup game, but it's possible that he's tired since he has played in the previous seven matches across all competitions. It might be a good idea to give the dependable Emil Krafth a chance to start.

The team's captain Jamaal Lascelles is the only center back who is fit and uses his right foot. He will most likely start the upcoming game. However, it's unclear whether Botman or Paul Dummett will join him on the field. Dummett already started both games for the team so far this season. Due to Botman's fitness issues, it wouldn't be surprising to see Dummett start again.

Burn, who played as a substitute in the AC Milan match, will have to compete with Lewis Hall for a place in the starting line-up. However, Hall was given permission to play against his former team. Burn also started the match against Fulham last Saturday.

The recent Cobham graduate could potentially join the midfield due to Joelinton's absence, as there are minimal options in that area. Sean Longstaff had his first complete 90-minute performance after coming back, and the remainder of the midfield trio will consist of either Bruno Guimarães or Lewis Miley.

Bruno has not played a single Carabao Cup match this season. However, he has played uninterrupted in all seven games since coming back from suspension against Bournemouth. Miley, who is only 17 years old, was given a break from the match against Fulham, which hinted that he may have been included in Howe's game plan for today's match. But Joelinton's injury in the first half gave the opportunity for the up-and-coming star to showcase his skills further. As a result, he scored the first goal in the second half.

It's uncertain if Alexander Isak will be able to play, but many assume that the trio of Miguel Almirón, Callum Wilson and Anthony Gordon will stay as is for the upcoming weekend. Despite this assumption, it's worth noting that Coach Howe has tried putting Matt Ritchie on the front line in the past.

Forecasted team selection for Newcastle: Dúbravka will be the goalkeeper; Krafth, Lascelles, Dummett, and Burn will form the defensive line; Miley, Longstaff, and Hall will play in midfield; and Almirón, Wilson, and Gordon will lead the attack.
