Captain Tom's daughter defends decision to keep book profits
Captain Tom's offspring stands up for choosing to gain profit from the book sales In a recent development, the daughter of Captain Tom has come forward to justify her decision to earn profits from book sales about her late father. She claims that the money earned would be utilized towards fulfilling the kind-hearted veteran's ambitions. Captain Tom won millions of hearts worldwide after he raised a huge amount for NHS Charities Together by doing laps on his lawn ahead of his 100th birthday during the pandemic lockdown in 2020. He passed away earlier this month after testing positive for COVID-19. Since then, some critics queried the family's decision to write books about the veteran as it might seem opportunistic. However, his daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, has firmly repudiated those accusations, stating that the profit earned would be used to make her father's dreams come true. Furthermore, she mentioned that his father's dream was to establish a charity foundation called The Captain Tom Foundation, which would help individuals who are suffering from loneliness and bereavement. The profits from the book sales would be channelled towards fulfilling this dream. Thus, she emphasised that the criticism levelled against the book's profit decision was unjustifiable as it is being used towards fulfilling her father's noble aspirations.
According to reports, Captain Sir Tom Moore's family has claimed that they kept the earnings from his books for personal use.
During her interview on TalkTV's Piers Morgan Uncensored, Hannah Ingram-Moore clarified that there was no previous arrangement with her father regarding the allocation of funds from book sales for charitable purposes.
In 2020, the autobiography of Capt Sir Tom, titled Tomorrow will be a Good Day, was released.
In the beginning of his memoir, he states that he has the opportunity to collect additional funds for his foundation through the offer to write it.
According to Ms Ingram-Moore, they honored the captain's wish by keeping the earnings from his three books which amounted to approximately £800,000.
According to her, her father desired his family to maintain the funds in a distinct organization from the Captain Tom Foundation.
It is not being implied that Ms. Ingram-Moore committed any unlawful act by retaining the proceeds from the sales of the book instead of contributing it to her late father's charity.
At the beginning of his 2020 autobiography, Captain Sir Tom penned the words: "It's unbelievable that at my age, I have been given the opportunity to write my memoir and also potentially contribute more funds to the charitable organization that has been founded in my honor."
The objectives of this mission are very important to me, as they involve fighting against loneliness, providing aid to hospices, and assisting individuals who are dealing with grief. It is a great privilege to be given another chance to contribute to my beloved country.
Captain Sir Tom Moore gained notoriety for his philanthropic endeavors amidst the initial COVID-19 lockdown.
The BBC shared a video from the TV program where Colin, the husband of Ms Ingram-Moore, informed Morgan that most of the £809,000 income earned by their business, Club Nook Ltd, was generated by the three books he co-wrote with Penguin Random House.
According to him, almost all of the funds for Club Nook were derived from book sales, comprising 95% of its total revenue.

Hannah Ingram-Moore, the daughter of Capt Sir Tom, stated that her father's desire was for the profits from the book to go towards the family.
Ms Ingram-Moore, who resides in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, expressed her sentiments regarding a set of literature which belonged to her father. The books were of his authorship and proved to be a source of great pleasure for him. However, they were exclusively his.
He had representation and together they collaborated on making that agreement happen.
The books belonged to Captain Tom and he desired the money to remain in Club Nook.
Morgan inquired if she wanted to retain something, to which she affirmed in a distinct manner.
She stated that the books were unrelated to the charity in any way.
According to her, her father was the one who determined how to use the earnings, and his choices were not in accordance with their own. He was the one who made all the decisions regarding his affairs, and they did not have any say in them.

Capt Sir Tom captured the affection of the country by embarking on a fundraiser walk that involved completing 100 rounds in his garden.
Sir Tom's amazing contributions to fundraising for NHS charities during the pandemic will always remain a significant part of its history.
He collected a sum of 38 million pounds for NHS Charities Together by taking brisk walks around his garden in Bedfordshire. This charity collaborates with over 230 NHS Charities in the United Kingdom to provide assistance to the organisation.
The philanthropic organization created to commemorate him is not receiving contributions anymore, as of now.
The Captain Tom Foundation is presently under investigation by the government.
Slightly more than a year ago, the Charity Commission initiated a investigation into its monetary affairs.
It has been revealed that Ms. Ingram-Moore received a substantial amount of money from her family's own business for her participation in events related to her father's charity work.
'Spent £18K On Awards'
She attended a ceremony for an award known as the Virgin Media O2 Captain Tom Foundation Connector Awards. The awards plaques shown during the ceremony featured the name and logo of the charity that the event supported.
During that period, she was the temporary leader of the charitable organization and received a yearly wage of £85,000.
Yet, the money paid for her appearance was not directed towards the Captain Tom Foundation. Instead, it was directed towards the Maytrix Group, a business owned by her and her partner.
During her TalkTV interview, she revealed that she received a payment of £18,000 and generously donated £2,000 of that sum to the foundation.
During the summer season, the foundation ceased to receive donations due to a directive from the planning officials at Central Bedfordshire Council. The officials had instructed that a spa pool at Ms Ingram-Moore's house, which had been constructed without authorization, be demolished.
The establishment situated in the area where the family dwells - initially endorsed for the purpose of catering to occupants and serving the Captain Tom Foundation - was authorized for construction in August 2021. The construction had already begun when fresh proposals were presented in February 2022 that stated a private spa pool, restrooms, and a kitchen intended for exclusive usage.
The council rejected the updated proposals for the building formerly known as the Captain Tom Building in November of 2022.
The officials said they issued an order for the demolition of the building, which was constructed without proper authorization.
The ruling was challenged and a court session is scheduled for later this month.
Ms Ingram-Moore has been requested by the BBC to provide a comment.
