We deserved more from the game - Alexander Djiku after Cape Verde defeat

Cape Verde

Alexander Djiku, an experienced defender from Ghana, played excellently despite his team's unfortunate loss of 2-1 against Cape Verde in their first match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023 tournament. Due to his exceptional performance, Djiku was awarded the TotalEnergies Man of the Match title.

Djiku managed to level the score and also prevented Cape Verde from having a clear opportunity to score a goal by clearing the ball.

On Sunday evening, he received the Man of the Match prize for his outstanding performance. As per the defender, his team deserved to achieve more than the outcome of the game.

“We should have gotten a better outcome from the game. Right when we were starting to excel, we let in the second goal, despite our domination. Our opportunities were scarce, and we didn't make the most of them, which is the main reason for our failure to secure a victory,” expressed Djiku.

Ghana has zero points and is in last place in Group B after losing to the Blue Sharks.

The Black Stars are currently facing a challenge.

I participated in the previous AFCON as part of the team, and our early exit was the most dreadful experience of my profession. I do not wish to experience that again.

Chris Hughton's team will need to recover in their next match against Egypt, who recently had a 2-2 draw with Mozambique.
