Hull-born singer-songwriter Calum Scott made a surprise appearance on Love Island last night, shocking the islanders with a live performance.

Calum, 34, sang his new single 'Whistle' alongside DJ Jax Jones, lighting up the villa as the Islanders enjoyed their surprise party. The new single follows the successful release of Calum's second studio album 'Bridges' in June, last year.

In October, Calum stunned his fans with a hometown show at Hull's Bonus Arena, and his latest performance has caused him to draw further parallels to his own city. Speaking to PA, Calum said that his gig in the Love Island villa reminded him of his first-ever gig at a working man's club in Hull.

Before the Love Island show, Calum said: "It’ll be a bit weird but I’ve done stranger gigs, It’s fine. I remember when I very first sat down when my sister entered me for my very first competition up in Hull, I sang at a working man’s club and there was about eight people in there.

"So I suppose it’s going to be kind of the same, just a lot nicer working man’s club in South Africa."

Introducing Calum on Love Island, Jax Jones said: "I need you to make a big round of applause for my man, Calum Scott! We're going to perform a brand new song for you, it's called Whistle!"

Speaking afterwards, Islander Ron said: "Callum Scott! I am such a big fan of Calum Scott, it's actually a joke!"

The Islanders clearly enjoyed Calum and Jax's performance, with every member of the villa dancing and singing along to his new song. You can listen to 'Whistle' for yourself by clicking here.

Scott, who rose to fame as a Britain’s Got Talent contestant, was Brit-nominated in 2017 for British single of the year for Dancing On My Own and this year for the best international song of the year prize Where Are You Now with DJ Lost Frequencies.

Elsewhere on Monday night's episode, Tanya caused a stir when she dropped Casa Amor new boy Martin in favour of her old flame Shaq. Following Calum Scott's performance, Tanya told Shaq in front of all the villa residents she “loved him”, after her uncomfortable breakup with Martin.

Calum Scott now departs from the Love Island villa to prepare for his upcoming European tour, which kicks off on Saturday, April 15 in Zermatt, Switzerland.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
