Arsenal are close to completing a agreement to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori for a price that is likely to total £42.1 million.

Bologna have been waiting for that specific amount, and Sky Italy has mentioned ongoing talks about how the payment will be made and any additional conditions. While many parts of the deal have been agreed upon, it is not yet complete.

There shouldn't be any issues with personal terms. Calafiori's old team, Basel, will receive half of Bologna's earnings from any potential agreement.

According to Sky Sports News, a different team from the Premier League, along with Juventus and Real Madrid, made attempts to acquire the player within the past 10 days.

But Calafiori was solely interested in joining Arsenal and promised he would sign with the team. His agent, Alessandro Lucci from The World Soccer Agency, collaborated with both clubs for the last month to finalize the agreement.

Bologna signed him for €4 million last summer.

The 22-year-old player performed very well at Euro 2024, even though Italy was eliminated early in Germany. His absence due to suspension was felt deeply in the team's loss to Switzerland in the round of 16.

Who Is Arsenal Attempting To Sign This Summer?

The left-back position needs to be improved, as Oleksandr Zinchenko did not perform as well last season. David Raya has also been signed permanently, along with Calafiori. However, if Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe leave as anticipated, there may be a need for attacking reinforcements.

When Does The Summer Transfer Window End?

The upcoming 2024 summer transfer window in the Premier League will come to an end on August 30th at 11pm UK time.

The Premier League has moved up Deadline Day to align with the other top leagues in Europe. The decision was made after talks with the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France.
