Burns night
What is Burns Night?
Burns Night is a Scottish tradition that occurs annually on January 25th. This celebration is in honor of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns, who is best known for his poem "Auld Lang Syne." During this event, friends and family gather together for a night of feasting, speeches, and entertainment. It is a night to celebrate Scottish culture, particularly its food, drink, and music.
How is Burns Night celebrated?
Typically, Burns Night celebrations begin with a traditional Scottish meal, which includes haggis (a type of savory pudding made from sheep's organs), neeps (turnips), and tatties (potatoes). The meal is accompanied by whisky, which is often drank in toasts to Robert Burns and Scottish culture. Following dinner, guests will listen to speeches, poetry readings, and music. The evening usually concludes with a rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" and the raising of a toast to the great poet himself.
