Burns Night 2023

Every year we celebrate Scotland’s nation’s poet, Robert Burns and honour Scots heritage, tradition and legacy.

January 25 marks Rabbie’s birthday though the rest of the week will see events held across the city where you can get involved in a bit of poetry, some traditional dancing, or just good food. From family-friendly days of fun, to three course meals followed by dancing into the night - there's something for everyone this Burns Night.

Check out some events we found below.

An evening of haggis, poetry and ceilidh dancing is set to be held at the Grassmarket Centre on Candlemaker Row.

The buffet style dinner will be followed by storytelling from Mercat Tours, before ceilidh dancing accompanied by The Outland Ceilidh Band. The event is running from 6.30pm until 10.30pm on January 28.

Annasach’s Burns Night Ceilidh

The Annasach Ceilidh Band are holding an informal celebration of The Bard at one of the old town’s hidden gems - The Counting House.

The pub is a spot that was once visited by Burns himself, where he was entertained by fellow poet Thomas Blacklock. The ceilidh kicks off at 7.30pm, with a break for haggis at 9pm before hitting the dance floor again.

Tickets are priced at £25 and can be purchased here.

The Mother Superior

This Leith Walk pub is hosting an ‘immersive’ Burns Night experience where visitors will be guided through three specially selected whiskies, all with a connection to Burns himself.

The whiskies will be served alongside a three course canape dinner, which takes a new twist on the classic Burns Night dinner. The evening will also see music and storytelling from multi-instrumentalist and composer Christine Kammerer.

Tickets start at £44 and can be bought here.

Scottish Café & Restaurant

Holding two events on January 27 and 28, the Scottish Café & Restaurant will be serving up three course Burns Suppers before in-house band Shenanigans play some traditional ‘jigs’.

Dinner packages start at £60 per person, with drinks packages available for £80. The prices include the meal and music, with the event running from 7pm until 11pm.

You can book your slot here.

Bairns Burns Supper

Suitable for all ages, a family-friendly Burns Night is being held at the Assembly Rooms on George Street.
