The guests took the lead just 13 minutes into the match when Dan Barlaser set up Anfernee Dijksteel. Dijksteel skillfully slotted the ball over James Trafford with a delicate chip, marking the first goal the home team had given up in over eight hours and 21 minutes.

That goal was unexpected given how the game was going, and although it wasn't shocking when Burnley equalized just eight minutes before halftime, the way they scored certainly caught attention. Connor Roberts surprised everyone by scoring from a distance.

There seemed to be minimal risk when the Welsh international gained control of the ball about 25 yards from the goal. However, with the strong winds blowing and no defenders approaching him, he decided to take a chance. His shot sailed over Seny Dieng, who was caught out of position, marking his return after a three-match injury layoff.

During the second half, both teams created some good opportunities to secure a win, with Michael Carrick's squad coming the closest. However, in the end, splitting the points seemed fair since neither side moved in the standings.

Burnley's manager, Scott Parker:

"I believe we truly deserved to earn three points tonight. The weather had a significant impact on the match for both sides. It was evident in how the ball moved through the air, influenced by the wind and rain. The conditions were challenging."

"They managed to score a goal despite not dominating the game, and we may have contributed to that. It's definitely an area we need to review, as we made it easier for them due to our positioning."

"As a coach, you constantly reflect on key moments to extract valuable lessons. This was the first time the team has allowed a goal in quite a while, so I was curious to see how they would respond. What I witnessed from the players was truly impressive."

Manager Michael Carrick of Middlesbrough:

"Perhaps the weather took us off guard. I believe we focused our defense mainly inside or near the box, and over time, we managed to minimize the gaps. So that shot came as a bit of a shock. I guess we can attribute it to the weather."
