The New Safety Video of British Airways: "British Original"

British Airways

The British Airways company has recently revealed a fresh safety video, marking the first time the airline's shown one since 2017. In light of the pandemic's new safety protocol, the airline has refrained from showcasing any video demonstrations, preferring manual explanations of safety rules on all flights (in accordance with mask mandates and so forth). However, that's going to change in the near future.

The latest safety video from British Airways has been dubbed a "British Original." Beginning May 1, 2023, the five-minute clip will air on their long-haul flights. The video boasts a plethora of British humour, featuring everything from inclement weather to the popular dish fish and chips. According to British Airways, this video perfectly highlights "everything that sets Britain apart as a truly one-of-a-kind destination."

The main focus of the video is on British Airways workers performing their duties, but it also showcases a few famous people like Ncuti Gatwa, Little Simz, Robert Peston, Kaya Scodelario, Steven Bartlett, Emma Raducanu, and Tom Kerridge.

In the video, you can see Ozwald Boateng, the designer behind the new uniforms for British Airways. Additionally, there will be another version of the video released in the future which will showcase the employees wearing the new uniforms. The filming for this updated version has already taken place.

Check out how Calum Laming, the Chief Customer Officer of British Airways, depicted the video:

We've all experienced safety demonstrations before, which is why we felt it was necessary to create something unique that would capture people's attention and align with our British Original brand identity. We wished to celebrate creativity and originality, which we believe is epitomized by both our company's personnel and our origin. That's why we emphasized showcasing a plethora of our colleagues performing their daily tasks for our consumers and each other. We also wanted to incorporate some humor and display British culture, highlighting the oddities that make our country stand out, including actual individuals ranging from fisherman to employees at a chip shop to friends just hanging out, as well as prominent figures that have helped create our country's identity. So, prepare for take-off, and we hope you enjoy our brand-new safety video.

My opinion on the latest safety video of British Airways

In today's world, airlines are dedicating a significant amount of effort to their safety videos. This is because almost all passengers watch the safety video, making it an essential part of the airline's brand and a marketing opportunity. Airlines also believe that passengers are more likely to watch a safety video if it's engaging.

Over the past few years, airlines have generally taken one of three approaches to their safety videos. A few safety videos focus on the carrier's country of origin, while some are meant to be funny and entertaining. Some airlines, on the other hand, aim to demonstrate their staff's abilities in their safety videos.

This clip appears to have elements of all three categories: it's somewhat amusing, displays various UK landscapes, and certainly showcases both British Airways staff and noteworthy individuals from Britain.

In my opinion, the video is pretty enjoyable. It's not the best video I've ever seen or the most thrilling, but it's nice to watch, and it's not bothersome enough to bother people who frequently travel by plane. It serves its purpose, it's the right length, and it won't cause any disruption on the flight.

Let's rephrase the blog section in simple English with different vocabulary: A good instance is the safety video of British Airways released in 2017 whereby it was created to be a comedy act but had mixed reviews. For some travelers, it was hilarious on their initial view but over time, the humor dwindled.

I'm thrilled to see that British Airways has returned to showing a safety video onboard their flights after using only manual demonstrations for over three years. Watching a video is generally more pleasing than listening to a person fumble through a script during the flight.

Starting May 1, 2023, British Airways will play a fresh safety video for their long-haul flights. The clip is referred to as a "British Original" and has British Airways employees and some prominent British public figures. I find the video modestly attractive, but it's not remarkably unique, from my standpoint.
