AgenciesThe UK has decided to send 600 Brimstone missiles to Ukraine help in its fight against Russia. Earlier, the Britain had pledged to send 14 British Army Challenger 2 battle tanks, according to inews report.
The UK's move has come after Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky sought heavy armour. Apart from sending Brimstone missiles, Ukrainian Armed Forces will be trained by the UK.
The US has pledged $2.5 billion aid for Ukraine.
John Kirby, a spokesperson for the White House, described it as an exaggerated response by China and a "pretext" for escalating military activities near the Taiwan Strait. China defends the drills as counters to U.S. and Taiwanese provocations.
Brimstone missiles
MBDA UK has developed ground attack Brimstone missiles for Royal Air Force. The laser-guided missiles are 1.8 metre long and 50 kg weight. Brimstone missiles are capable of targeting tanks, fast-moving vehicles on land and vessels at sea.
Brimstone missiles were deployed in Libya and Afghanistan. Brimstone missile 1 was inducted in 2005, and Brimstone 2 was introduced in 2012.
Brimstone missiles have been acquired by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Germany. In 2015, the cost per Brimstone missile was at £175,000.
