Renée Zellweger Returns: Fourth Franchise Film On Feb 14, 2025
The first trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has just come out, and we’re thrilled to see the delightful Renée Zellweger in her role again. However, it’s bittersweet as we bid farewell to a beloved character.
The preview reveals that Bridget is back to being single after losing her husband, Mark Darcy, four years ago. He was tragically killed during a humanitarian mission in Sudan.
As a single mom to her nine-year-old son Billy and four-year-old daughter Mabel, Bridge receives support from her trusted friends and her ex-partner, Daniel Cleaver (played by Grant).
“You're Like A Cheeky Nun”
In the video, Bridge’s friends tease her about her lack of romantic relationships (some things always stay the same). Meanwhile, her former boyfriend Daniel jokingly remarks, “You’re like a nun – but a very mischievous one.”
The movie is helmed by Michael Morris and features performances from Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall.
Renée is set to reprise her role in the fourth installment of the series, which is scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025.
The series kicked off with Bridget Jones's Diary in 2001 and draws inspiration from the beloved fictional character conceived by Helen Fielding in the 1990s.
The three earlier movies — Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001), Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004), and Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016) — have grossed over $800 million globally.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy: Official Summary Under the influence of her close-knit circle—Shazzer, Jude, Tom, her coworker Miranda, her mother, and her doctor Dr. Rawlings (played by Oscar winner Emma Thompson)—Bridget feels compelled to seek new opportunities in both her personal and romantic life. She returns to work and experiments with dating apps, quickly attracting the attention of an appealing and eager younger guy (Leo Woodall from White Lotus). As she balances her job, home life, and love interests, Bridget faces scrutiny from the overly perfectionist mothers at her son’s school. She also deals with her son Billy's struggles with his father's absence and has a number of cringe-worthy encounters with his overly analytical science teacher (Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor).
