The popular BBC crime series received accolades for the performance of a Scottish actor, who hailed from Carluke, a town near Glasgow, for his portrayal of a former crime lord turned snitch called Tommy Hunter during the initial two seasons of the show.

On Tuesday (30 April), his sibling Sarah McCardie posted on X/Twitter that he passed away "unexpectedly in his home" on Sunday.

In the blog, it was stated by Ms McCardie that Brian was an outstanding and enthusiastic performer both in theater and on screen. He adored his job and impacted numerous individuals during his time. Sadly, his departure came way earlier than expected.

She stated: "We have a great affection for him and his absence will be deeply felt. Please keep Brian in your thoughts."

McCardie also appeared in the TV series Domina, which was inspired by ancient Rome, portraying the character of Cicero. He also played Sir Marcus MacRannoch in the time-travel historical show Outlander, and depicted the role of James Connolly, the Irish leader, in a TV series called Rebellion, which was set in the year 1916.

After the article was published, United Agents verified the passing of McCardie to the PA news agency.

They released a statement expressing their disbelief and profound sorrow upon learning of the unexpected passing of Brian.

"We had the privilege to represent a highly talented actor, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his loved ones during this challenging period."

McCardie played the role of Alasdair MacGregor, the brother of the main character named Rob Roy. The actor Liam Neeson portrayed the titular character.

He also starred in various TV shows such as the modern-production of Murder is Easy based on Agatha Christie’s novel, the limited series Titanic and the drama set in Dundee known as Dog Days.

Bafta Scotland expressed their sorrow over the loss of actor Brian McCardie in a statement on X/Twitter, commenting on how saddened they were to hear the news. They extended their sympathies to McCardie's family, friends, and colleagues during this trying and difficult time.

BBC Scotland's Head of Commissioning, Louise Thornton, praised McCardie for being a skilled and adaptable actor.

According to Thornton, he was exceptionally skilled at portraying the character of Tommy Hunter, who was both intimidating and central to the plot in the initial seasons of the show Line of Duty.

McCardie was born in Scotland and raised in North Lanarkshire where he became interested in acting during his school days. Eventually, he moved to Rothesay, Scotland.
