Maddie Phillips: A Week in the Life
“Maddie Phillips’ Game Day: Chilli, Rice, Cheese”
She manages to juggle football alongside her job at Heathrow Airport, while also keeping a packed social agenda that involves catching the men's first team games whenever possible.
"I work from Monday to Friday at Heathrow Airport, where I'm a CTIM for terminal four. The logistics field is quite distinct from football," Phillips explains.
Typically, we hold our training sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at either Bedfont Sports Club or Jersey Road.
"Saturday is usually my day to unwind and take it easy. I like to spend time with friends and family, getting out and being social. If the guys have a game, we often head down to cheer them on, which is always great."
"Moving on to Sunday, which is, of course, game day. There's a lot of effort that goes into getting ready for it during the week. On Sunday morning, I prefer to take a moment for myself to relax, organize my thoughts, and get everything lined up."
"I usually start with chili, accompanied by rice and cheese; it's my classic choice."
Phillips has had a remarkable journey in her football career, beginning at Chelsea Academy when she was just 11 and continuing there until she turned 19, after which she moved on to Charlton Athletic.
"My journey in football has had its share of ups and downs, but overall, I've experienced far more successes than setbacks. I feel fortunate that, thankfully, I haven't faced any major injuries throughout my career."
"I’ve experienced countless incredible moments in football. Spending eight years at Chelsea was truly a dream come true."
"It teaches you a multitude of valuable life skills beyond just the game itself, transforming you as an individual. This was a truly wonderful experience for me."
"Moving directly from Chelsea to Charlton was an incredible experience. Joining a Championship team right away provided me with a significant challenge."
After taking a break from soccer, she found her way back to Brentford, a team that has been a part of her and her family's lives for as long as they can remember.
"Sadly, I lost my passion for the game, but stepping back from it has made me appreciate it again," she explains.
I really enjoyed the time I took for myself; it allowed me to reflect on what I truly desire and how I want to shape my future.
“Having the opportunity to return to a club like Brentford, where there is strong support and the freedom to progress on your own terms.”
"Karleigh has been fantastic in letting me approach things in my own style and focus on what works best for me, which I really appreciate. I've returned to the game and I'm truly enjoying playing football again, as well as appreciating who I am with the other girls."
On Sunday, Phillips and her teammates will compete against Ascot United at Bedfont Sports Club for the first round of the FA Cup. The match is set to start at 3 PM.
