FC Barcelona Icon Ronaldinho Announces Boycott Of ‘Embarrassment’ Brazil With ‘Average Players’

Brazil

The former FC Barcelona star, Ronaldinho, has made it clear that he won't be backing the Brazil national football team in the upcoming Copa America tournament. In his opinion, the team doesn't have any exceptional players and is lacking in strong leadership.

Ronaldinho, the renowned FC Barcelona star, declared that he will not lend support to Brazil's national team for the upcoming Copa America. This was because he said that the team was made up of mediocre players and lacked actual captaincy.

Before the weekend, the ex-winner of the Ballon d'Or became popular due to some remarks he gave to Cartoloucos.

He expressed his disinterest towards the upcoming Copa America saying that he would not be watching any of the games. According to him, the matches lack the excitement, drive and are being played poorly. He made it clear that he had no enthusiasm for even a single game.

On Saturday, Ronaldinho decided to reaffirm his statements by posting a video on Instagram.

"I'm done, guys. It's the end for me," Ronaldinho expressed in his message. "This is a melancholic moment for all the fans of Brazilian football. It's challenging for me to gather the will to watch the matches."

It could be argued that this team is among the most mediocre in recent memory, lacking in any noteworthy figureheads and comprised mostly of average players.

I have been a football enthusiast since my childhood days even before I had any aspiration of joining the game as a player, but the current state of affairs is beyond what I have ever witnessed.

The shirt is devoid of passion, persistence, and most crucially, soccer spirit. I cannot stress enough that our play has been abysmal - an embarrassment, really.

"Thus, I am announcing my decision to withdraw. I will not be tuning in to any Copa America matches or displaying any enthusiasm for the outcomes," concluded Ronaldinho.

Ronaldinho, who was a prominent player for Selecao, managed to win the Copa America in Bolivia back in 1999 when he was still a young adolescent. Additionally, he also managed to secure Brazil's most recent World Cup victory in Japan just three years after his previous triumph.

The impressive achievements he made during the tournament and his time at Paris Saint-Germain got noticed by FC Barcelona. The club's current President, Joan Laporta, who was serving his first term, decided to sign the former striker and bring him over to Catalonia.

Ronaldinho revived a dormant powerhouse that hadn't won any trophies for five consecutive seasons. As a result of his stellar performance, he helped the Barcelona team win two La Liga titles and seize their first Champions League trophy since 2006.

Returning to Brazil, several of his fellow countrymen regard the time when Ronaldinho was playing - along with other ex-Barca icons like Rivaldo and Ronaldo - as the final exceptional team to have represented the five-time victors of the World Cup.

This summer, a team from the United States will strive to regain the Copa America championship that they lost to Argentina at the Marcana in 2021. The team's main attractions will be Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo.
