Boris Johnson revs up the faithful with vintage performance - but the cameo's too late to save the Tories

Boris Johnson

He still has that special something. Boris Johnson may have arrived just in time to join the Conservative Party, but his last-minute speech to the loyal party members was classic Boris and reminiscent of his past performances.

It was a chaotic and lively performance at the box office, reminiscent of the energetic and crowded fringe meetings he used to host at Tory conferences. Back then, he was adored like a rock star by his enthusiastic fans.

In the past, he would overshadow and embarrass David Cameron and later Theresa May.

Latest election news: Sunak uses emergency measure by calling for Johnson.

This time, Rishi Sunak is under attack from Mr. Johnson's supporters who claim he betrayed him and spearheaded the effort to remove him from power.

You can ask Boris for help, just like you can ask Brutus for help. He didn't just come to support the Tories when they needed him, he also came to address some past issues, defend his reputation, and show the Tory supporters that he is still relevant.

And he indeed accomplished all of that.

However, although Conservative supporters who showed up at almost 10pm love him, is he still able to attract votes? Or for those who are undecided, does he serve as a symbol of partygate, corruption, and the disarray within the Conservative party?

However, he was present on his own conditions, as he clearly stated.

Mr. Johnson started his speech by saying he was invited to speak at the rally, reading from hastily written notes on wrinkled paper.

Put simply, Mr Sunak had pleaded for help after a failed Tory election campaign. The person he asked wasn't inclined to help right away. He wanted Mr Sunak to humble himself and beg for assistance.

Mr Sunak did not receive any praise in his speech. Additionally, there was no handshake given.

Other individuals may have taken the stage, such as Michael Gove and then Mr. Sunak, but ultimately, this event was dominated by Boris Johnson and his solo performance.

Despite the fact that he delivered a very strong speech, the Prime Minister waited until near the end of the event. It was clear that Mr. Johnson was the main attraction, with enthusiastic Conservative supporters chanting his name.

Following a brief introduction by Mr. Gove, the star attraction made an unexpected appearance on stage, wearing a poorly fitted suit and sporting disheveled hair that had not been trimmed in weeks. He also appeared to have put on some weight since his time at Number 10, much to the surprise of the audience.

When was the last time he went to see a hairdresser?

Before giving a speech, he always tousles his messy blond hair on purpose. It's all for show, just like how Ken Dodd used to do. Fans even compare him to the well-known comedian from Knotty Ash, saying Boris is just as hilarious.

He appeared disheveled, but the crowd didn't mind. They cheered "Boris! Boris!" just like they used to when he was the favorite at the conference unofficial events.

He started off, as expected, by making a joke at the expense of Sir Keir Starmer, the person he once referred to as "Captain Crasheroonie Snoozefest" during prime minister's questions.

He expressed gratitude to the crowd for showing up at such a late hour at this location, long after Sir Keir Starmer usually goes to sleep. Ba-dum-tss! The leader of the Labour party will likely continue to hear jokes about his Friday night early bedtime rule.

"I was happy when Rishi requested my assistance," he stated. "I definitely couldn't refuse."

It is unlikely that Boris Johnson will step in to help the Red Wall Tories who are at risk of losing in the upcoming election. They may have regretted not seeking his support sooner in the campaign.

In the blog, Johnson defended his actions during the pandemic and the distribution of vaccines. He proudly mentioned multiple times that Brexit had been successfully completed. He described it as a "real Brexit" and emphasized that his government was focused on delivering Brexit.

Perhaps. The viewers were ecstatic about it, but why are many members of the Conservative Party shifting their support to Reform UK if it was so successful?

After that, Sir Keir was mocked as being a follower of Jeremy Corbyn and criticized for allegedly obeying EU laws without question. People also called him "poor old Starmer" because he was hesitant to clarify the distinction between a man and a woman, according to his statement.

Next, he confronted Nigel Farage, a move that Sunak and his top ministers should have made weeks earlier.

Reform UK was described as being influenced by the Russian government and compared to being like pet birds of Vladimir Putin. The speaker expressed strong disapproval, receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience.

And here we have a classic Johnson joke: "Make sure the Putin supporters don't help the Corbyn supporters!"

Old-fashioned, certainly. Humorous, of course. An excellent entertainer, without a doubt.

However, is he still considered valuable, even as many voters seem to want to hold the Conservatives accountable for his leadership in Downing Street instead of placing blame on Mr. Sunak for the party's failures?

Regardless of how voters feel about Boris Johnson, his unexpected appearance at the last minute is likely not enough to prevent the Conservatives from the significant loss that the polls are forecasting.
