Bluey animated film announced by Disney+ and BBC
Bluey, the lovable puppy from the award-winning children's television series, is making her cinematic debut with her very own feature film.
It is set to hit theaters in 2027 and will later be available for streaming on Disney+, ABC iView, and ABC Kids in Australia.
BBC Studios, which operates as the commercial division of the BBC, is collaborating with Disney on this initiative.
Bluey is a blue heeler pup who lives with her mom, dad, and younger sister, Bingo. She transforms ordinary moments in her life into exciting adventures.
The show’s creator, Joe Brumm, expressed his belief that Bluey should have its own movie. He wants the experience to be something that families can enjoy together.
In 2017, ABC and BBC Studios partnered to co-commission the TV series, which is produced by the Australian company Ludo. The name "blue heeler" refers to a breed of dog native to Australia.
It can be accessed in over 140 countries and is currently the leading program on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK. Additionally, Nielsen Media Research reports that it is the most-viewed series worldwide on Disney+ this year.
The show has received several accolades, including the Television Critics Association Awards in both 2023 and 2024, as well as this year's prestigious Peabody Award.
In the past year, the series has amassed over 20 billion minutes of viewing time on Disney+ in the United States, ranking it among the top 10 streaming shows in the country based on total minutes watched.
The movie will include the voice talent from the television series, with Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack reprising their roles as Bluey's parents, Chilli and Bandit Heeler. The music for the film will be composed by Joff Bush.
