The publisher, Activision, has revealed in a blog post today that the shooter game set during the Cold War will have "texture streaming" available in all game modes.

According to Activision, to play any game mode, including Campaign, you will require an uninterrupted internet connection.

What's the reason behind Call of Duty's need for internet connection to stream its textures? Activision justifies it with two reasons- first one being the ability to provide players with the best quality visuals. Secondly, it helps in minimizing the game's storage space on your device's hard drive.

The reason behind the large hard drive space taken up by Call of Duty seems to relate to the game's size. The Xbox store listing for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 shows the game requires a massive 309.85 GB of storage.

This raises the question - how huge could it have been if texture streaming did not require constant internet connection? Furthermore, is it a better option to keep your gaming console connected to the internet continuously, even if it's only for Campaign mode?

Activision provided additional information which stated that the Campaign of the game is playable without having an online subscription service, such as Game Pass Core (previously known as Xbox Live Gold) or PlayStation Plus.

Split-screen action can be had but not on all game boxes. The Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 can both let you split-screen share with another player, but the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 cannot do this. These devices don't have the performance chops required - so say the game makers.
