Birmingham City celebrated their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town on Friday night.
John Eustace ’s side got off to a perfect start in their first game at St. Andrew’s of the new campaign as Scott Hogan put Blues in front on five minutes. The evening shortly got even better, just before the interval, as summer signing Przemyslaw Placheta scored his first goal to put Blues 2-0 ahead, with Juninho Bacuna also impressing in midfield.
Huddersfield threatened to make a comeback in the second half as Danny Ward grabbed a goal on the hour mark. However, last season’s play-off finalists were ultimately no match for Blues who marched to an impressive victory and continued their promising start to the season.

After enduring a difficult summer, supporters were thrilled to see such an encouraging performance from Eustace’s side. A result that briefly takes the club top of the table before the rest of the weekend’s game, the team will wish to ride this wave of momentum for as long as it lasts.
Showing resolve and character to hold on to the victory, fans on social media had plenty of praise for how Eustace has an instant impact on the club. Here’s a look at what supporters had to say after the match on social media.
@DavoBirmingham: We’re Birmingham City, we’re top of the league.
@BloozExtra: John Eustace has completely changed this squad. Pressing in numbers, everyone knows where to drop when others go forward, getting back as a team and actually passing the ball to feet. I know these are basics but we’re not used to it as bad as that sounds.
@Jak_Collier: Quality first half, battle in second half thought we recovered well after their spell and goal. Either way very impressed tonight!
@Jake__TR: Blues setting up my weekend, absolute madness!!! Organised, well drilled, work rate on & off the ball. Tell you what with some luck this season injury wise we could overachieve with this bunch. Fair play Eustace! Fair play. Up the blues.
@bobbyjones007: Very impressed with that. They look fitter, stronger and more organised. I dare to dream like the naive child I was once was many lifetimes ago with hope in my heart and passion in my tender eyes
@ESONEULB: 1st win of the season and top of the league for a few hours. Great performance against a team that is playoff standard.
@spjonah77: Bacuna is a silky smooth footballer. 3 points in the bag.
