Beth Shriever's Story

Luke Got Me Into BMX Racing

He invited us to the BMX track nearby and my dad drove us there. He helped us navigate the jumps and soon enough, we were hooked.

When it comes to BMX racing, going from just a fun activity to a full-blown career can easily sneak up on you. I managed to snag my first European Championships win when I was about 12 or 13 years old, and also made it to the finals in my first world championships around the same time. It was at this point that I realized there might be a future for me in racing professionally.

I've had several mentors throughout my journey. Mark Seaman was one of the first coaches I worked with, and Marcus Bloomfield has been guiding me for many years as a professional. While they have played a crucial role in my cycling improvement, my family has been my biggest source of inspiration throughout my career. They have been my motivation, keeping me humble and greatly influencing my participation in BMX competitions. Early on, they became integral members of the close-knit and supportive BMX community.

Moving up to the top level was a huge moment for me. I always admired Mariana Pajón, who is considered the best in BMX racing. Now I find myself competing against her. I managed to win a gold medal in Tokyo before her, but it still amazes me that I am able to race alongside such an inspirational figure. Mariana has a special presence and is always willing to help others. I try to follow her example and give back to the BMX community, just like the elite riders who inspired me when I was starting out.

I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming race in Paris. I am particularly excited because I feel that the track is well-suited to my skills and abilities. Winning the test event earlier in the year gave me a huge confidence boost and allowed me to further prepare for the upcoming race.

I have faced a few injuries this year, but currently, I am in good shape due to the assistance of my team. I wouldn't be prepared for the Olympics without the help of the physios, mechanics, coaching staff, and others who have helped me reach this point in the season. I am very appreciative of all their support.

I am really excited about having my friends and family there to cheer me on - something that I didn't have the opportunity to experience in Tokyo. Having a big group of spectators will greatly impact my performance - the French are big fans of BMX racing, so I know they will bring a lot of energy. I can already tell that the atmosphere is going to be incredible.

BMX racing is a unique sport that offers a sense of camaraderie among participants. The thrill of the adrenaline rush is unparalleled, and the opportunity to travel to different locations and experience new places adds to the excitement. Overall, it's a positive and uplifting experience for all involved.

It has been an adventure, but I wouldn't want it any differently.
