Rodrigo Bentancur ‘conscious and communicating’ after incident in Leicester game
Ange Postecoglou shared that Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is awake and talking after a serious head injury during their 1-1 match against Leicester.
Bentancur had to be carried off the field on a stretcher after he fell down and seemed to hit his head on the grass when a corner kick from James Maddison happened in the 71st minute of the Premier League game.
Spurs players quickly called for help from the sideline, and after receiving treatment for seven minutes, Bentancur was finally able to sit up. He was then taken off the field on a stretcher, receiving oxygen along the way.
Archie Gray came on for Bentancur in the 78th minute as a replacement due to a concussion. Unfortunately, it was another difficult trip to King Power Stadium for the Uruguay player, who had previously suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage at the same venue in 2023.
"I don't have much details, but I can confirm that he is awake and talking, so he is doing okay in that sense. However, he did suffer a head injury, and I trust the medical team to take care of him now," Postecoglou commented.
The important aspect is that he is fully aware and able to communicate.
When questioned about Bentancur, who filled in for Bissouma due to his suspension following the laughing gas incident, Postecoglou stated that he was unsure if Bentancur had lost consciousness.
When a player is injured with a head injury, we are always careful and cautious. I don't know all the details, but I do know that it involved a collision to the head.
