This morning, four flights were canceled at Belfast City Airport, and several others experienced delays. This disruption occurred when a plane's nose wheel failed after making a hard landing in poor weather conditions.

Nearly all flights scheduled to leave Belfast City Airport before 10 a.m. are running behind schedule. For instance, a flight to London Heathrow that was supposed to take off at 6:35 a.m. is now expected to leave four hours later.

On Sunday at approximately 4 PM, the airport shut down its runway due to damage sustained by an Aer Lingus regional flight operated by Emerald Airlines during its landing.

There were four crew members present, but no passengers onboard. However, the situation activated emergency protocols.

Some flights were rerouted to Belfast International Airport.

The flight was primarily for repositioning the aircraft instead of transporting passengers and had departed from Edinburgh Airport.

In an announcement made on Monday morning, the airport stated, "The aircraft has been relocated, and the runway is now back in operation and will function normally today."

Travelers affected by the cancellations and rerouted flights yesterday, as well as those flying today, should verify their flight status with the airline before heading to the airport.

The aircraft encountered a rough landing as a result of unfavorable weather conditions throughout the UK on Sunday.

Stormy conditions and winds reaching approximately 70mph disrupted flights, train services, and ferry operations.

On Sunday, about 100 flights at Heathrow Airport were called off because of "strong winds and airspace limitations," according to a spokesperson. However, they noted that the "overwhelming majority" of flights continued to run normally.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) reported that their teams were summoned after the front wheel of a plane failed during its landing.

A post on X stated, "We had a total of 24 team members present who helped the Belfast City Airport Fire Service ensure the area was secure. NIFRS has since departed from the location."

On Sunday, Belfast International Airport announced that four flights had to be redirected to them because the runway at the city airport was closed.

"Since our schedule was already busier than normal, these extra flights have brought us close to our limits. This means we can only handle a few more redirected flights tonight. However, we will keep doing our best to help whenever we can," a representative stated.
