Bayern vs Union Berlin

Bayern Munich reclaimed top spot in the Bundesliga with a 3-0 win over title rivals Union Berlin.

Kingsley Coman was heavily involved in the first half when he provided a floated cross for Eric Choupo-Moting to head home, before he rounded Frederik Ronnow and slotted the ball into an empty net to double Bayern’s lead.

Jamal Musiala - who celebrated his 20th birthday with the win - got in on the first-half action when he converted Thomas Muller’s cross after making a clever run at the near post on the stroke of half-time.

Right at the start of the encounter, Muller had squandered the chance to give Bayern the perfect start when the veteran striker miscued a shot from close range, but it would be a warning for Union for what was to come.

Bayern dominated the opening exchanges and stamped their authority on the game when Choupo-Moting rose highest to meet Coman's cross and head the hosts in front.

Then shortly after came Coman's cool finish after outwitting Ronnow.

Bayern had a deserved third when Musiala met Muller's cross and fired the ball past Ronnow to cap off an assertive first-half display.

Alphonso Davies nearly made it four just minutes into the second period when his close-range shot was stopped well by Ronnow, but Union did well for the remainder of the match to keep the deficit down to three.

Julian Nagelsmann was boosted by the return of Sadio Mane, who came on as a second-half substitute following surgery on a leg injury three months ago.

The win means Bayern go back above Borussia Dortmund, who beat Hoffenheim 1-0 on Saturday, while Union Berlin remain third, three points behind Dortmund and Bayern.

Nagelsmann’s side retake the advantage at the summit of the Bundesliga after Dortmund briefly took control over the weekend.

Despite the weekend’s results for Bayern and Dortmund, who are now level on 46 points with Bayern leading on goal difference, Union Berlin are joined by a bunch of clubs still very much in the race for the title.

Urs Fischer’s side, along with RB Leipzig and Freiberg, are still in with a chance, as well as outsiders Frankfurt, but Bayern will certainly be frontrunners after Sunday’s results, especially the way they dismantled an impressive Union side.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - KINGSLEY COMAN (BAYERN MUNICH)

Coman was at the centre of pure Bayern Munich dominance in the first half. He set up Choupo-Moting’s goal with a brilliant cross, before coolly scoring himself to put Bayern well on track for three points.

The winger created five chances in the match, more than anyone else on the pitch, as well as the most dribbles (5) despite being taken off in the 65th minute.
