"This is a critical and risky point in the season," said Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich following last week's 2-1 loss to Mainz. "It's essential that every player understands the importance of winning our final match of the year on Friday against Leipzig."
Bayern Munich made a strong statement. The Rekordmeister didn't just win against RB Leipzig; they completely outplayed them. Even though Leipzig managed to level the score shortly after Jamal Musiala opened the scoring, thanks to a goal from Benjamin Sesko, the Red Bulls had no answer to what followed.
Konrad Laimer (25’), Joshua Kimmich (36’), Leroy Sané, and Alphonso Davies (76’) helped Bayern secure a convincing 4-0 victory. The scoreline could have easily been higher, as Bayern completely outperformed Leipzig, who appeared lost and struggling for the full 90 minutes in every way.
Kimmich expressed his thoughts on the match, stating, “We performed exceptionally well today. We got off to a strong start, and even though they equalized quickly, it was clear that we were all focused on securing a win. The team recognized that our last game against Mainz was our poorest effort, and today was a whole different story.”
There's no question about it. It's worth mentioning that Leipzig was struggling, but Bayern could only compete against the team they were up against. The Munich club took full advantage of the chaos they encountered.
One of the few letdowns of the match is that Bayern didn't secure a larger victory. They clearly had plenty of chances to add more goals, as their offense repeatedly broke through Leipzig's defense.

“We had an excellent performance throughout the match against a strong opponent,” Laimer told DAZN after the game. “Leipzig has a powerful offense, but we managed to limit their chances significantly. Now we can relax and enjoy the next few days.” Laimer’s goal truly confirmed our victory.
The former Leipzig standout appeared completely revitalized, despite having missed practice earlier this week due to the birth of his first child. Rather than showing any fatigue, the Austrian played exceptionally well and was one of the top performers on the pitch.
Laimer wasn't the only player who stood out in the match. Kimmich netted an impressive long-range goal. Meanwhile, Davies, who is currently in extended contract negotiations with Bayern, made a remarkable return from injury to participate in the game and even scored with a header.
This match will give the Davies team even stronger points to discuss as Bayern seeks to extend his soon-to-expire contract. Not only did Davies find the back of the net, but he also contributed to a more solid defense for Bayern with his speed, closing down any chances that Leipzig's quick attackers were trying to exploit.
To put it another way, Bayern delivered an almost flawless performance, and it couldn’t have come at a better moment. If they had lost today, Leipzig would have closed the gap to just three points, and Leverkusen could have narrowed it to two with a victory against Freiburg tomorrow.
If Leverkusen secures a victory tomorrow, they'll be just four points behind. Even with Bayern's recent win, the competition for the title in Germany is still very much alive. However, for now, Bayern fans can take pleasure in knowing that their team is sitting at the top of the Bundesliga standings as they head into the Christmas season, which is where they believe the club truly belongs.
