AUGER-ALIASSIME THROUGH

Felix Auger-Aliassime is safely through to the second round, but boy did he have to work for his place.

The sixth seed lost the first set to compatriot Vasek Pospisil before taking the next two on tiebreaks. He finally clinched victory with a 6-3 fourth set win, after almost four hours on court.

Medvedev is playing some lovely stuff and sets up two more break points at 15-40 after coming out on top in a 16-shot rally.

This time the break comes more easily, at the first time of asking following a double fault from Giron.

It's an awfully long way back for the world No.60 already.

KEYS COMEBACK

Over on Margaret Court Arena, Keys has battled back from 3-0 down to take the first set 6-4 against Blinkova.

The dam eventually breaks though, as Giron goes long on the sixth break opportunity.

It's a dream start for Medvedev - although he might have preferred not to have a 12 minute 21 second game so early.

We're onto the final match of day one at the Australian Open - it's last year's runner-up Daniil Medvedev up against the USA's Marcos Giron.

The final match on Margaret Court is underway, where 10th seed Madison Keys is trailing 2-0 in the first set against Anna Blinkova.

Sixth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime has recovered from dropping the opening set to go 6-1 6-7 6-7 up against fellow Canadian Vasek Pospisil.

There could be a bit of a shock on the cards on Court 7, where Italian 17th seed Lorenzo Musetti is 4-6 1-6 down against Lloyd Harris - but leading a third-set tiebreak.

How far will the Greek third seed go this year?

Tsitsipas reached the semi-finals in 2019, 2021 and 2022, but is yet to get to the showpiece match in Melbourne.

Former champion Stan Wawrinka, who won in Melbourne in 2014, is out.
