NYPD Blue and NCIS child star Austin Majors dies, aged 27

NPYD Blue child actor Austin Majors has died at age 27.

Majors, known for playing the role of Theo Sipowicz on ABC's police procedural drama, has been found dead at a shelter facility in Los Angeles on Saturday (February 11).

An autopsy on Majors's body was scheduled for yesterday but the results are yet to be made public.

The family of the actor issued a statement to TMZ, remembering Austin as a "loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being".

"Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in High School," the statement reads.

"He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing.

"Austin's younger sister, Kali, says her fondest memories with Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with Kids With a Cause, and backpacking together.

"Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever."

The actor was on NYPD Blue for seven seasons between 1999 and 2004. Alongside his role on the primetime drama, where he mostly worked opposite actor Dennis Franz as his onscreen dad Detective Andy Sipowicz, Majors has appeared in other TV shows.

His acting credits include episodes of NCIS, ER, According to Jim, Desperate Housewives and How I Met Your Mother, the latter being his most recent acting role.

Majors was also a voice-over actor, having featured in animated comedy American Dad! and in Disney movie Treasure Planet. In the 2002 sci-fi animated film, the late actor starred as the younger version of protagonist Jim Hawkins, whose adult version was voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
