The Met Office has announced that the UK should prepare for rain and chilly winds, with temperatures expected to be lower than usual. They also cautioned that there may be some areas experiencing light frost.

On Wednesday, expect some gusty rain showers, with a slight chance of thunder and hail, especially in the northern regions, according to the weather report.

On Wednesday, there could be some light snowfall or sleet in the Scottish highlands, as temperatures are expected to be around 4°C to 5°C lower than usual for this time of year. In Scotland, temperatures will range from 10°C to 13°C, while southern England will see slightly warmer conditions, between 13°C and 16°C.

Clare Nasir, a meteorologist from the Met Office, stated, “Yesterday, the north east of Scotland experienced strong winds and continuous rainfall, all due to this low-pressure system.”

"This weather system will keep influencing our conditions for the next few days."

She explained that this indicates "rain, a bit of sunshine, and a chilly breeze."

Rain will persist until Wednesday evening and into the night, but it will gradually diminish over land. However, it will be more common in the northern and western regions.

Some regions could experience frost overnight as temperatures fall to around 4°C or 5°C, but bright sunshine is expected to follow.

"Winds will be calmer in inland regions, with rain expected mainly along the coast. While some showers might also occur further inland, there will be periods of dry weather. Expect a combination of clouds and sunshine, with temperatures reaching 14°C or 15°C in the southern areas," Ms. Nasir noted.

Friday is expected to be mostly dry, following the chance of some light frost overnight on Thursday.

She mentioned, "A high-pressure system is approaching, which means we'll start off with chilly temperatures and some localized frost. However, we'll also enjoy some sunshine with that."

"Everything will shift as we move into the weekend from the northwest."

Temperatures are forecasted to get closer to the normal range for this time of year over the weekend, with southern regions seeing highs of around 21°C.

Weather expert Tom Morgan mentioned, "The southern regions will experience significantly warmer and stable conditions, while western Scotland will face rainy and windy weather."

"We can expect more typical September weather as we head into next week."
