Archie Goodburn, a swimmer from Britain, shared that he has received a diagnosis of incurable brain tumors. These tumors were found after he took part in the Olympic trials earlier this year.

Goodburn, a 23-year-old athlete from Scotland, felt numbness and nausea while preparing for the Olympic trials. Unfortunately, he just missed qualifying for the event in April.

Goodburn posted on his Instagram page on Thursday that his test results revealed he has three oligodendrogliomas, which is a uncommon type of cancer.

"About six weeks ago, my life was completely altered when doctors informed me that I had three brain tumors," he penned.

In December of last year, his fitness routine started to get stopped by unexpected events that he believed were migraines. He experienced a decrease in energy, felt tingling on one side of his body, and felt sick to his stomach.

"I realized that the episodes I was experiencing were actually seizures. These seizures became more intense and frequent as the 2024 Olympic trials approached in April, which I had been working towards and preparing for my whole life," stated Goodburn, who achieved a bronze medal in the men's 50m breaststroke at the 2019 World Junior Swimming Championships in Hungary.

Goodburn, who competed for Scotland at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, expressed optimism that the radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments will be successful.

The positive aspect of this diagnosis is that oligodendrogliomas usually react well to radiotherapy and chemotherapy compared to other dangerous types of brain tumors. They typically grow slowly and these tumors are likely to have been present for years.

Goodburn also mentioned that he is youthful, in good shape, and surrounded by an amazing group of friends, supportive family, and a wonderful girlfriend.

I am committed to facing this challenge head-on, staying optimistic, and continuing to be myself, Archie.
