The Background of Antonio Guterres
Antonio Guterres is a renowned diplomat and politician who is best known as the current Secretary-General of the United Nations. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1949, Guterres began his career in politics during the 1970s as a member of the Socialist Party. He later served as the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002, during which he led his country through a significant period of economic growth and development.
After stepping down as Prime Minister, Guterres became involved in humanitarian efforts, serving as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for 10 years.
