Angela Bassett lost out on the Best Supporting Actress award to Jamie Lee Curtis at the 2023 Oscars, and her reaction has broken hearts across the Twitter-verse.

The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actress was undeniably the favourite in the category, which included eventual winner Everything Everywhere All at Once actress Jamie, as well as The Banshees of Inisherin's Kerry Condon, EEAAO's Stephanie Hsu, and The Whale's Hong Chau. So, we don't blame her for being deeply disappointed when her name wasn't called out as the top of the pack.

While the other nominees clapped for Jamie, 64-year-old actress Angela looked obviously deflated and upset, with her reaction quickly picked up on social media.

One person wrote: "Angela Bassett's reaction hurts me #Oscars ????," while another added: "Angela Bassett's reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis' name being called…you can tell how much that Oscar would have meant to her. she is, was, and always will be incredible. I better see her on that stage SOON." A third said: "That fact that you can literally see how upset Angela Bassett was is what broke my heart."

Angela losing out on the role indeed did come as a shock, as she was the hot favourite to win after all her years in entertainment paying her dues. Earlier this year, she won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at the Golden Globes. She used her acceptance speech to pay a heartwarming and tear-jerking tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, who was the lead in the first Black Panther movie in 2018.

She emotionally mentioned: "We were surrounded each and every day by the light and spirit of Chadwick Boseman. We have joy in knowing that with this historic Black Panther series, it is a part of his legacy that he helped to lead us to. We showed the world what Black united leadership [looks like] beyond, behind and in front of the camera." Angela Bassett, you still did the thing!
